I think the only game Nintendo could possibly release that would de-throne Mario Kart for general sales success would be a full-fledged Pokemon RPG on the Wii U.

Don't get me wrong, I am super happy that Splatoon is doing well.  It's an amazing game and I will be absolutely thrilled if it passes 2 million lifetime sales.  That said, I just don't think it's fair or realistic to compare it to a monster like Mario Kart 8.

 We are already hearing that Splatoon is selling about half as well as MK8 here in North America and I think that is amazing news.... Definitely something for Nintendo to celebrate.  But that same news also points to hardware sales for the Wii U in the month of June being down YoY.  But there's nothing wrong with that, because Wii U will have Xenoblade X, Yoshi, Mario Maker coming to bolster sales in the second half where the Wii U's lineup last year was pretty thin.
