Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon - Nintendo trying to change the DLC formula.

I just want to say that Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is a thing.

haha My nephew doesn't have Xbox live and his mom doesn't want him to get it. The only reason he's got a 360 is because I gave him mine when I stop playing with it.

That game has a much more violence and crude humor when compared to Splatoon even if they got the same E 10+ rating.

Makes it seem like the whole game itself is a marketing push by Nintendo to sell Wii Us and a marking push by the developer for future game sells. Will Splatoon be as profitable a game if it didn't have such free DLC content? Even if the DLC were super cheep, how much money are they essentially throwing away? It has me curious, even though I would never play such a game as this.

Splatoon maybe cost 60$, but look how much Battlefield Hardline costs or what they want for BF4 (which was broken as fuck) to get the "Premium" aka Standard Edition.

I would rather pay 100 for Splatoon in the current form before EA get 79+ Bucks from me for their uninspired and broken garbage, Content is important but the gameplay is the real deal. Go play Counter Strike for comparison there are thousands of Maps and how many do they play, 3? 4? And I mean literally since decades!!

So I am ok with paying 60$ for Splatoon.

Paying and supporting less content game for $60 is like asking developers to focus on only mutliplayer with fun maps instead of giving more cotent thats worth of that price and also skip single player totally in future which is bad for industry. Splatoon is a cash grab try by Nintendo by pricing at $60 and locking some content behind Amiboo so they are extracating more money out of a small budget/Indie level efforts game compared to AAA level game budgets and efforts needd by other game developers. Splatoon is good fun game but the pricce and content they offer is not worth. Just because the game is fun does not mean we have to pay $60 for a 30-40$ efforts game and its ok if any is fine with ths but they should remember that they are supporting a bad practice here which might hurt all gamers in future.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

It's an interesting strategy.

I was very happy paying full price for the game. From day one I feel that the game almost justifies the price without the future updates. I say almost because I think they needed two or three maps and an additional mode to strike the right balance. The game is quite packed with content, there are over 20 weapons, dozens of gear and the single player is quite fleshed out,

With all the new maps, weapons and modes coming out for free in the next months, I seriously doubt many people are going to complain about being overly ripped off. The game has been out for over a week and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

I, personally, wouldn't mind if other publishers adopt this model as long as they don't charge me for what should be part of the full priced game.

My niece and nephew play it all the time. My brother tells me that they take turns with it and try to coach each other in the game. Its exactly what I was hoping for. A fun game they can play together. Funny thing is that my brother spends as much time as he can with it too. One of these days I'm going to have to tell him to get his own Wii U instead of bumming mine.

Or you're asking them to keep focusing on the gameplay, the thing that determines whether content even matters. It's because of said gameplay being so good is why I've already played Splatoon longer than I have most AAA games, hence it's value exceeds all those games to me, so yeah I have absolutely no problem with having paid $60 for it, and this is even before all the free additional content arrives.

New content please and free thanks!
i love this game

Only thing Amiibo gives you is one costume, the missions it brings are content already in the game only with parameters, if it was a cash grab the DLC wouldn't be free either they could have easily released it at a lower price then charge for DLC to get more then the price people are paying now. AAA budget and effort means nothing if the games aren't fun to play.

The ironic thing about the way people try to slam Splatoon's approach is that games like Evolve show the other side of the fence and you don't get anything for free with them, you're saying people are supporting a bad practice when in actual fact the industry has been supporting bad practices for well over a decade now microtransactions, season passes that don't give you all DLC and all, hell even a game like Arkham Knight is confirmed to be impossible to get all the content at launch which you'll have to purchase later. Here you get content for free something that other games that had worse practices that people paid full price for don't give you.

Well I mainly wanted to play the title with my 10 year old nephew... In order to play with him I would have to pick two games... which would cost $140 ($70 CAD) in Canada. He's super stoke to play it. While I on the other hand can't help but feel its a glorified demo game selling at full retail price. We both played the test fire and I wasn't impress. On the other my sister is super strict with what my nephew is allowed to play so this game would be is first foray into the FPS without the angering his mom.

The game release with only 5 maps and is very limited with the 4 vs 4 (which is extremely unbalance if one player not doing anythign or quits). It's far from the FPS experience that you get from BF or COD. They have achieve the goal of making a new FPS experience. Kinda like playing Titanfall for the first time. Same old formula with a new twist.

I'm sure the team working on Splatoon a multiplayer focus game could of release the game with more then 5 maps. This is why in my title i'm claiming that Nintendo is actually taking the DLC approach to Splatoon in order to keep the game exciting and renew interest on monthly basis. Would you release a gmae with 10 maps and add 5 dlc over time or release a with only 5 maps and release one new map with new game mode every single months for 10 months. It's actually not that bad of a system if that's what they intended to do. I just can't really believe that they only manage to have 5 maps ready for launch, I trully think this is deliberate approach by Nintendo. I just have a hard time with the full retail price.

The local multiplayer does seem pretty weak, my son and I only played about 7 or 8 rounds of it one time and neither of us has mentioned trying it again. That would make it less appealing if you had your nephew in mind with the purchase.

Is it even actual downloadable content? Because last time I checked I didn't even need to download anything for the extra map and weapons...
