Stolen from GAF. Instead of accusing Kotaku of click baiting please answer the questions in the OP. Thanks:

For a comparison of user reviews of Xenoblade and Xenoblade X

Xenoblade: http://wiimk2.net/title.php?title=757
Xenoblade X: http://wiimk2.net/wiiu/title.php?title=124

X has way less reviews though. General impressions I've seen from Japanese players are not necessarily positive.

You are trying so hard, is hilarious.

So you think The Witcher 3 deserves a 72 right? And you agree that Xenoblade Chronciles is waaaay above Witcher 3 (72 VS 90). Of course.

Well according to those chart, Japanese gamers think that Xenoblade Chronicles has better graphics than The Witcher 3.

But then again the review count is not the same.

We really shouldn't be using these customer reviews at all.

Everybody knows Kotaku is racist to japanese games

When asked to compare it to the original the guy said "Similar, but without the story". That indicates to me that he found the basic mechanics of the original to be not to his taste also, so keep that in mind. However, I do think this game is going to be a mild disappointment. The signs have been pointing that way for a while

The Japanese are notoriously afraid of ghosts, combine that with public transportation and they probably just couldn't handle the spookiness.

Mute main character and create your own character rpg usually dont have a great story, it relies on gameplay mechanic especially open world quest mechanic in XCX case. If they cannot create unique quest and mission or repeating the same thing over and over, then maybe some gamers will feel some boredom on this games world which is really huge. Unless they create a lot of content which is not the same thing over and over. I haven't play the game yet, but my friend who got the game said the game feel like Monster Hunter Games meat Star Ocean with armored core mecha. It's different from the previous Xenoblade which is have a great stories and fix main character my friend said.

Not everybody is gonna like it and honestly, Dragon Age and The Witcher 3 set the bar high for RPGs in general. XCX does give me an MMO vibe from the previews i've seen. It will be interesting to see how it will be received with the recent surge of WRPGs.

EDIT: I agree with the user above. Mute and customizable characters usually lead to an underwhelming adventure, at least in terms of story. In the first XC, you took control of shulk, an established character with his own thoughts and feelings and voice acting to boot but XCX is certainly going the opposite direction.

People are very quick to disregard to opinion of someone who didn't find the game as amazing as they think they will XD I'm getting the game regardless, but the reactions from this review reminds me of the response Dark Souls fans get if someone says they don't like it. Let the guy have an opinion. All reviews are purely opinion, it's good to get thoughts from the negative side too.

Seriously, if Kotaku had said the opposite they'd be heroes. Some are calling this preview "harsh"... really? There is nothing harsh in this preview. Your feelings are just easily hurt.

This is also why people should not jump on hype trains. Expectations are raised to high, the "this game couldn't possibly be anything lower than 9 mindset" is the reason the The Order: 1886 banwagon has egg their face.

XB:C has always looked B tiered and thats fine with me.

I'm guessing that score has more to do with gamers prefering art-style over actual tech, which is common in many places including VGChartz. So that isnt a valid reason to discard the use of user reviews. And we don't have anything else to go by really, last I heard Famitsu is crap.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

hahaha   nice point there, apparantly they Love Japan, RPG,  and Nintendo, so there is no bias there.and also their review system is not using score so it's not just a click bait article like some people said in this thread.

Which doesn't change the fact that she is still one individual, do you think every SCEJ Developer shares her opinion? Instead of attacking Kotaku or downplaying the author who isnt a dev, go after the authors points, do they hold any water? No one (so far) has gone after any of his points and is focussing on Kotaku the brand.

Fine, here you go.

The main story of Xenoblade X is not exactly meaty—it is only 12 missions long. However, that doesn’t mean the game isn’t packed with other content. There a numerous side quests to be done in between story missions—one or two of which are usually prerequisites for starting the next story mission.

It's 12 chapters, each chapter is multiple missions, each chapter has it's own quest fullfilment requirements, from helping other npcs to attaining a certain level, you cannot actually get a mech till past chapter 6, and the very same reviewer made an earlier post stating he got his mech at around 55 hours in, for a game that "isnt exactly meaty", 12 chapters long and it took him 55 hours to get to chapter 6? Yeah, okay!

These quests take two forms. The first are quest board-style quests with no story component, just a blurb telling you where to go or what to do. The other set of side quests are called “bond” quests. These quests allow you to create an emotional bond with various citizens of New L.A. You get a few short cutscenes detailing their lives and problems in the crashed space colony.

He clearly can't read japanese or sucks at it, as those are simple missions, it even says on the damn quest wall "Simple mission", then theres story mission and quest missions, you can get all sorts of missions by getting them off the board, or the network board inside the player home, or just off of npc around the world, so again, what this point of his shows me is that hes playing it off of a guide because he cant fully (or at all) understand it.

This is one of those games where flat-out grinding is often a quicker way to level up than questing. Unfortunately, the battles tend to be as monotonous as the quests.

Questing is by a country mile faster than monster grinding, the EXP given for each quest is based off of the quests difficulty, the harder to go, the higher the EXP, grindings only really needed when you run out of quests (which is rare). So again, bullshit.

Strangely, there are no line-of-sight rules in Xenoblade X. As such, an enemy can attack you through walls (or even mountains) as if there is no obstruction at all. The lack of line-of-sight rules for the AI also makes typical MMORPG battle tactics like line-of-sight pulling and kiting impossible. Running away from a hopeless battle is likewise much more difficult.

This ones partially valid, however as i discussed with people when i was streaming, its simple down to the game being turn based, being able to run around is only really intended to change the direction of which you attack, and if you really do need to bail, putting your weapon away and sprinting disengages the battle with ease, again, a lack of knowledge/understanding here showing through.

If I were to describe my 70 hours with Xenoblade X in one word, it would be “boredom.” The main story did little to get me invested, the side quests were repetitive at best, and the combat was a painfully monotonous slog even with the advanced classes unlocked.

The combat and overclock systems just fine, the storyline is fine, not amazing but certainly not boring either, the dude talks about grinding monsters to level up and you wonder why he thinks its painfully monotonous?

Also, regarding user reviews.
