they have devils third as a second shooter.

i want a gta like game. Well they had lego undercover..^^

Witcher 3 = Zelda wii u

Shooter = Splatoon / d.Third

Andything popular missing?

Well I'd say why finance Devil's Third, that would be better off financing a similar type of game from a Western studio.

Zelda is fine, another fantasy type RPG to go with it wouldn't hurt though.

They should have another competetive FPS (not Metroid, *competetive* Nintendo, no one would care about COD if it was just a 1 player game) in the portfolio. Splatoon + a FPS title is starting to get to decent coverage.

Skylanders and Minecraft style games ... yeah sure why not.

More sports games ... still missing.

Also enough with these rinky dink small scale cross overs, if you're going to do a cross over then why not do a cross over that could legitimately be big? SMT x Fire Emblem realistically isn't going to do sh*t for the Wii U, but Zelda x Final Fantasy or something would.

I doubt that SE would be interested in such a crossover. Plus it would take at least 5 or 6 years to happen. That would mean that SE would need to start planning for the system that comes after NX for a Zelda/FF crossover.

Yes I'm sure Square-Enix has no interest in another 3-4 million selling IP, when they whore out Final Fantasy in every way imaginable. "Nintendo Hearts" to be honest is something that should happen, it would make both Nintendo and Square-Enix a ton of money.

It's really Nintendo that has the problem likely. They don't want to share the spotlight too much, so they purposely opt for lower key cross overs ... like Pokemon x Nobunga's Amibition or whatever ... talk about a completely freaking random cross over. I get that they don't want to lose control of their main IP, but if you're going to make these cross over titles, I think making 1 big one would be preferable to like 3 or 4 little ones that don't give you a big return.

Mario x Sonic Olympics, why not Mario x Dragon Quest? Which would sell more? Lets be real here.

Mario x Dragon Quest wouldn't sell outside of Japan. You can't blame Nintendo for protecting their IPs when they're so valuable. Look at what they can spawn. There's whole theme park rides being made based on them. Sony is chomping at the bit to get their hands on them so they can make movies with them. Their IPs are probably among the most valuable in gaming today. But it still doesn't mean that a big crossover would work for either company.

Actually pretty much anything with Mario on the box sells 1 million+ minimum. It's part of the reason why Nintendo puts Mario in everything.

Truthfully if they wanted to make Dragon Quest better known in the West, that would be one of the best ways to do it.

I think Nintendo's issue is more that they actually are afraid the games would be *too* successful and then they might be beholden to a third party. I get the sense they kind of like their standing as Japan's top publisher and don't want to help others gain on the success of their IP. Which is prideful, but I don't know if its smart given their market position.

They have every right to be prideful. They turned a hanafuda card company into a billion dollar corporation. Lets say you had this IP that was worth tons of money. Would you be whoring it out to every 2 bit operation around? You'd damage your franchise, your brand, and eventually your own profitability. I know I wouldn't trust SE with Nintendo IPs after seeing what they did to their own flagship franchise FFXIII.

Nintendo should borrow concepts of all the popular games of today and Nintendo-fy them into their own as more first party games~ Fuck third parties and their generic gameplay.

They`ve kinda already dipped their toes in all sorts of genres, from action to adventure, RPGs, puzzle games, horror, space shooters, fighters, sports, and so on. Shooters was one of the few they skipped on, but have finally down so with Splatoon. Sure, they may not make as many new IPs or characters as other people, but it would be wrong to say Ninten only does a few genres. Also, they have only done 2 2D platformers, if I am not correct. The rest have just followed suit.

With that said, I would love them to crank out more RPGs ; )

for sure Nintendo is in action/adventure with Zelda and Metroid. they've tried horror in the past too, with things like Eternal Darkness, but with the Gamecube it brought limited return... obviously they are trying more actiony/intense with Devil's Third

it can be tough if you are so known for certain things to branch out. Nintendo tries here and there but they'd be fools to make a huge shift when they currently have a strong relationship with families who feel comfortable buying their stuff

Well, they can`t really cover every genre on their own. That`s where 3rd parties come in to provide the missing genres, which they aren`t here this time... : ( Despite this, they`re not doing too bad, covering Platformer, Horror, Adventure, RPG, Shooter, Fighter, RTS, and perhaps a few others I`m missing. Not bad at all... ; )

I understand.  And I respect your viewpoint.  But I honest believe it would be good for Nintendo and the Industry.

we have a similar thread with your post about nintendo as 3rd party. i think Nintendo still won't profit that much as a 3rd party compared to have its own home console + software sales. it is thoroughly discussed on that thread.

with regard to the OP, yes Nintendo should try to focus on more popular genres in the West - open RPG should be a good one and collaborate with 3rd party developers on great games with Nintendo twist.

I've been saying for years they need to invest in a new IP to appeal to the audience that likes Uncharted, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc. A mature rated action game with high production values.

Retro would be a prime candidate to do it, but Nintendo seems hellbent on using them as ineffectively as possible.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES. They still need a co-op cover based 3rd person shooter like army of 2 or gears of war. I was hoping that would be star fox but i guess not. A new metroid prime could cover their bases on fps. I just hope it has better story telling than the previous primes, but doesn't go over board like other M. Pokken could be their traditional fighting game. They have a solid rpg in xenoblade chronicles, and hopefully a good survival horror game in fatal frame V. A stealth game would be new territory for them. For the love of god i hope they can just start limiting themselves on the 2d sidescrollers. I know its what brought them to the dance, be come on. It's a very out dated genre.

Xenoblade X is basically a MMORPG, with all it's online features.
