Forums - Nintendo - Should Nintendo Focus On More Popular Genres?

Zelda is supposed to be a medieval fantasy open world game. The problem is Aonuma's idea of Zelda, not the franchise. They don't need a new IP, they need to get rid of Aonuma and you have there what it should be.

What's wrong with Aonuma? He directed all the modern Zelda games.

they have devils third as a second shooter.

i want a gta like game. Well they had lego undercover..^^

Witcher 3 = Zelda wii u

Shooter = Splatoon / d.Third

Andything popular missing?

Well I'd say why finance Devil's Third, that would be better off financing a similar type of game from a Western studio.

Zelda is fine, another fantasy type RPG to go with it wouldn't hurt though.

They should have another competetive FPS (not Metroid, *competetive* Nintendo, no one would care about COD if it was just a 1 player game) in the portfolio. Splatoon + a FPS title is starting to get to decent coverage.

Skylanders and Minecraft style games ... yeah sure why not.

More sports games ... still missing.

Also enough with these rinky dink small scale cross overs, if you're going to do a cross over then why not do a cross over that could legitimately be big? SMT x Fire Emblem realistically isn't going to do sh*t for the Wii U, but Zelda x Final Fantasy or something would.

I doubt that SE would be interested in such a crossover. Plus it would take at least 5 or 6 years to happen. That would mean that SE would need to start planning for the system that comes after NX for a Zelda/FF crossover.

Yes I'm sure Square-Enix has no interest in another 3-4 million selling IP, when they whore out Final Fantasy in every way imaginable. "Nintendo Hearts" to be honest is something that should happen, it would make both Nintendo and Square-Enix a ton of money.

It's really Nintendo that has the problem likely. They don't want to share the spotlight too much, so they purposely opt for lower key cross overs ... like Pokemon x Nobunga's Amibition or whatever ... talk about a completely freaking random cross over. I get that they don't want to lose control of their main IP, but if you're going to make these cross over titles, I think making 1 big one would be preferable to like 3 or 4 little ones that don't give you a big return.

Mario x Sonic Olympics, why not Mario x Dragon Quest? Which would sell more? Lets be real here.

The difference is Square Enix likes whoring out it's franchises, while Nintendo does not. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games has also outsold the entire Fortune Street series, which is Mario X Dragon Quest.

The difference is Atlus approached Nintendo about Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Square Enix would probably do that with Final Fantasy, but with Nomura directing Kingdom Hearts III, I wouldn't expect your Zelda X Final Fantasy idea would work well.

He's not only one to blame of course, but he turned what used to be open-world exploration/sword fighting game into puzzle solving adventure, because he sucked at original Zelda and he likes puzzles.

I always have this idea that he must've really liked original Tomb Raiders, since when I enter Aonuma's temples I feel like playing old Lara Croft games, with less platforming.

Now, don't get me wrong, I like puzzles, FP puzzle solving adventures are one of my most cherished genres, I like when RPGs have them too, and I even, reasonably, like his Zeldas, but he transformed Zelda way too much from what it was to his own liking - maybe Zelda U will be more balanced in that regard, but I too think that Nintendo needs someone new for Zelda.

Who are you to say what Zelda should be? Surely Aonuma has way more right to that, being as he has directed many of the most popular Zeldas.

They have previously stated they dont like to compete with the other companies, but they should.

They really need to create popular mainstream titles to combat the likes of Halo, Uncharted etc.

This idea saddens me as they would simply be conforming to casual tastes but as someone said before if they can add a twist or Nintendo flair to it I wouldnt mind.

Exactly. Add in there that he takes too long to develop a game and you have the complete equation.

I think from Zelda NES to Majora's Mask every game has the same Zelda feel of exploration and adventure, something that the modern Zeldas lack.

I'm pretty sure neither you or Aonuma has the right, but Miyamoto and the ones that developed the first games on NES.

As I've said before, I'm really not worried about Nintendo's future, much like Sony, Nintendo tends to rebound fairly well, when/if they stumble. Plus, some of their franchises are among the most beloved on the planet. Personally, I think they should allow their devs free reign, as many of them have earned that right.

Getting the rights to Bond would be the best bet. They could then utilized Retro's talents to make a modern 007 successor based off the newer movies.
