They`ve kinda already dipped their toes in all sorts of genres, from action to adventure, RPGs, puzzle games, horror, space shooters, fighters, sports, and so on. Shooters was one of the few they skipped on, but have finally down so with Splatoon. Sure, they may not make as many new IPs or characters as other people, but it would be wrong to say Ninten only does a few genres. Also, they have only done 2 2D platformers, if I am not correct. The rest have just followed suit.

With that said, I would love them to crank out more RPGs ; )

for sure Nintendo is in action/adventure with Zelda and Metroid. they've tried horror in the past too, with things like Eternal Darkness, but with the Gamecube it brought limited return... obviously they are trying more actiony/intense with Devil's Third

it can be tough if you are so known for certain things to branch out. Nintendo tries here and there but they'd be fools to make a huge shift when they currently have a strong relationship with families who feel comfortable buying their stuff

Well, they can`t really cover every genre on their own. That`s where 3rd parties come in to provide the missing genres, which they aren`t here this time... : ( Despite this, they`re not doing too bad, covering Platformer, Horror, Adventure, RPG, Shooter, Fighter, RTS, and perhaps a few others I`m missing. Not bad at all... ; )
