ah hah! Finally, you admit it.

The console war discussion is about the console market only unless specified.  You know that and you like to throw handhelds into it anyway. I'll leave this as is. I'm satsified with how this went. haha.

3DS is a console. They appeal to different markets.

What exactly is the point of this argument. No matter which way you put it, it's two different markets. If you combine handhelds and home consoles why stop there. Mobiles and PC also play games and that are another 2 different markets, wanna chuck those in.

Why is it important that you group handhelds and home consoles together?

Ah, the age old debate of "is a handheld a console?"

Yes, it technically is, but it's also common knowledge that you don't compare them to home consoles because what makes a good handheld does not necessarily make a good console. As stated above, these markets are far too different from each other to compare them.

Is it a console? Yes. It's it comparable to a home console (of which this topic is clearly referring to)? No.

It doesnt ignore anything. And you can look at past sales to see what a silly notion brand power is in this market :)

You're grossly underestimating or just downplaying brand power. If devs mention that they are making a new COD, GTA, halo, TLOU, elder scrolls, fallout, super mario, zelda without any footage being shown or any info beyond the name of the game, alot of people will buy those games no questions asked because of the brand/logo. It's no different with consoles, handhelds (nintendo) or smartphones (apple).

WIth consoles, playstation has the strongest brand power and that is one of the biggest reasons why It sells more than the competition. It's name carries more weight in the console market. With it's brand power, playstation consoles only needs to have a good launch to win a generation. The same can't be said for the others. History will show that. The PS1 and PS2 had good launches. They dominated their gens.

Games and consoles are dramatically different. History has shown gamers have no problem playing their favorite franchises on different platforms. History has also shown that regardless of how dominant one brand might have been one generation, the next generation they can sell a whole lot less if another platform comes along and does something much better or if that big brand fucks things up. Again, last gen we heard it the whole time when people were discussing why the PS3 was in 2nd or 3rd and would not live up to its predecessors. It was all about Sony's mistakes, nothing about Nintendo creating the perfect console for last gen or MS paving the way for indies on consoles or their early launch. Were these people bitter? I doubt they thought pointing to mistakes last gen was bitter.

I'm not denying PS has brand power. It does. And it helps it sell consoles. I just think the mistakes of Nintendo and MS are far bigger contributors to the sales the PS4 is seeing. There's no reason to downplay anything or be bitter. This isn't a Dreamcast situation where poor sales are leading to bankruptcy or missing out on games or the console dying off after two years. Whether the PS4 or WiiU or Xbone is your preferred console its well support and gets games.

As if this idea that a company can sell over 100 million units by default is even something we as consumers should want to be reality LOL. Anyway, this will be my last post on this subject.

in order to downplay a company he might not like and to make his company of choice look not as bad...duh!

Mobile and pc do not fit the conditions of a game console being that they are not primarily used for gaming.

There is far more overlap between the PC, PlayStation and Xbox than between PlayStation, Xbox and DS. Nobody is taking your argument seriously because it has no merit.

Well then add them. How many of those are sold? Let's get to the bottom of what the real best selling console actually is.

probably more than 3ds considering alot of people have custom PCs. We'll never get an accurate number of people who use PCs to game, it would be silly to try but even 25% of PC users WW would be far more than any console. So the whole thing is silly

Still proves my point further that Sony is not winning the console war.
