Why is Sony winning the console war?

The console war discussion is about the console market only unless specified.  You know that and you like to throw handhelds into it anyway. I'll leave this as is. I'm satsified with how this went. haha.

3DS is a console. They appeal to different markets.

What exactly is the point of this argument. No matter which way you put it, it's two different markets. If you combine handhelds and home consoles why stop there. Mobiles and PC also play games and that are another 2 different markets, wanna chuck those in.

Ah, the age old debate of "is a handheld a console?"

 

Yes, it technically is, but it's also common knowledge that you don't compare them to home consoles because what makes a good handheld does not necessarily make a good console. As stated above, these markets are far too different from each other to compare them. 

 

Is it a console? Yes. It's it comparable to a home console (of which this topic is clearly referring to)? No.
