Forums - Sales - PS4 has done what Wii never could - hit 50% marketshare!

50% market share is a great feat but in the games industry that probably holds untrue, A market where new companies will never step in and if others pull out leaves the market stagnant.

The general sales of consoles over april and may took a nosedive so lets hope E3 can pick them back up for June.

It will never cease to amaze me people come to a sales tracking site and then go off when people celebrate...sales.

Thanks jlmurph!

this won't hold Long, so enjoiy the victory

sony made everything right for the early years of gen 8

Its lasting since 1995. Wii era was different but PS3 had a decent comeback in late. With PS4 we are into normal track in home console arena.

Congrats Sony. There is still a long way to go this generation, so dont let the early lead make you complacent. The people who bought the PS4 deserve the same respect you showed PS3 gamers late into the 7th Generation. You keep making great, unique and exclusive content for your platform and the public will continue to jump on the bandwagon.

To the people complaining about this thread, welcome to the Sales forum on a Sales based website. We are happy to have you here, however if you do not appreciate Sales discussion you know where the door is.

This is a first for home consoles. Nintendo handhelds have had 100% market share (and will again next gen) so that's nothing new.

Then what was the PSP? Was it's 80 million or so consoles nothing? The PSP didn't allow the Nintendo DS to have 50% of the handheld market share... this is why ignoring things is bad because fallacies turn up and skewed data.

stop crying..

I agree with you wholeheartedly, iPhone and Android are both above everything here but for some reason it just gets ignored by console and handheld people.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

With ioi updating the hardware sales to mid-May in one sweep we now can see PS4 holding the majority of the market. One console hasn't dominated like that since PS2, I believe. Wii managed to hit ~49.5% at most iirc.

And this matters to gamers because?

Because you are here on VGChartz talking about it :)

How high can it go? 60% seems too much to me, but 55% could be attainable.

Well, I think 500k = 1% so it should get to 55% by the end of the year.   If it performs as well as last year it can hit the upper limit of 60% but may just miss.
