Why do people want wiimotes and the gamepad gone? Surely having options for controllers isn't a bad thing and it's not like it would be hard or time consuming to simply chuck in code for button recognition. Seems really selfish to me

Hopefully. That for sure will make them be less lazy and stop believing userbase will be happy playing again their games from last gen meanwhile they took ages to develop a simple game.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Actualy Nintendo never said NX will use similar arhictecure to Wii U, and part about easy ports was made about porting games from next handheld to next home console and reverse. “It will become important for us to accurately take advantage of what we have done with the Wii U architecture,” Iwata said. “It of course does not mean that we are going to use exactly the same architecture as Wii U, but we are going to create a system that can absorb the Wii U architecture adequately." |
That does make it sound like it will have backwards compatability, wich is exactly my point.
I think the NX is a handheld, so no. They won't. I think all future Ninty handhelds will can play DS games

Their NeXt home console won't abandon the Wiimotes and the Gamepad, in my opinion. Everyone has wiimotes, a lot of people, specially families with kids, will be mad those don't work anymore on more recent consoles (at least Dualshock and the 360 controller can be used on PCs, the Wiimotes can't without a complicated bluetooth system) and they are cheap to make and profitable to sell. The Gamepad will be more difficult, it will probably be used for BC instead of new games.
I would like the next Nintendo controller to be PC compatible, I'll buy a GameCube Controller that workson PC.
If they're not stingy with specs again, WiiU will be easily emulated in software.
I actually don't want backwards compatibility next time for the NX Home.
Think it hinders the console or somehow.
Again with this backwards compatibility stuff? None of the Ninty consoles were b/c until the Wii came out, the SEGA Genesis was only b/c with the Master System via an add-on module, and the 360 was only partially b/c with the original Xbox's library. Only the PS2 and 1st-gen PS3s were fully b/c with the previous hardware generation, and Sony quickly axed that feature to cut costs in later redesigns.
B/C is not a priority for home consoles, and if Nintendo has any sense, the NX will be completely separate from the Wii family of consoles for everything from software to accessories.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
NX (meaning the hardware Nintendo will reveal next year) is or includes a handheld. There's no way they aren't revealing a new handheld next year, basically. Iwata has said that Nintendo's next platforms will be based on the Wii U architecture, so BC should be easy to implement. The Wii U will not be blessed with as long a life as its predecessor, however its software is very strong and has strong legs. With BC on their next platform, games like Smash, Kart, Splatoon, the Marios, even less popular titles could continue to sell decently well into the Wii U successor's life. Lots of gamers missed out on these due to skipping the Wii U, selling them a much more compelling console that can play all of these excellent games at launch is a good idea.
Also, and I can't stress this enough, you gotta have the eShop including the entire Wii U Virtual Console available in its current state on their next console on day one. 3DS and Wii U both had a soft launch with the eShop / VC coming months later and it was a disaster both times. Absorb that eShop and all of those games into the next console. Make sure people can play Shovel Knight and Pushmo and Punch-Out!! on their NX right out of the box.

If you want BC, then NX will need to be built on Wii tech like the Wii U, decade old technology, which goes against rumours of NX being modern and powerful. Or, you would need a Wii U chipset in NX which would run the old games, adding to the cost of the NX console.
I suppose the ideal would be 2 SKUs, one with BC, one without, $50 difference?
