Forums - Nintendo - THEORY: Nintendo dropping backwards compatibility for the NX

LOL its inenventable, powerPC architecture would be too strong for x86. And the wiiu isnt really backwards compatible. You need a wii-mote to play most wii games. Thats another thing why they couldnt put BC into the NX, the gamepad isnt sold seperatly.

Ugh, I feel like everyone and their mother has forgotten that the NX was confirmed to NOT be a replacement for the Wii U or 3DS!

When was that confirmed?...

Wouldnt bother me if they dropped it, I have a WiiU and 3DS and even if I didnt I wouldnt be missing much anywayy

NX is probably just an exit strategy for Nintendo to withdraw from the home console business. They release a powerful handheld system that perhaps has x86 architecture and also fits into a craddle where it draws more power and has fan cooling and creates better visuals for connection via hdmi. End result also a home console of sorts but not competitve with xbox or ps4.

Maybe NX is a VR headset that works with a lithium ion battery pack and again works better if you connect to mains. A light VR headset on the move that uses augmented reality so you still have outside vision of what is going on in the world and game graphics only take up part of the screen thereby reducing performance requirements and making it safer to use.

VR is so clearly the future but at what maturity does it get mass acceptance. I personally think the second generation will do it. VR is just so brilliant and amazing I don't think it will take long. It may be that Nintendo won't survive without getting into VR hardware.

Why not, if they do that I think they will try somehow to port some Wii U games and release them on eShop.

From all that Nintendo announced and said, NX is integration of their home and handheld business. Like Iwata said,

"Home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems.”.

Iwata himself has said that they weren't replacements. I don't remember which interviews but I know there have been at least a couple of articles talking about it...

whats also interesting was how it seemed like he was implying that he wanted to combine mobile stratagies with it as well. all eyes will be on them e3 2016

I hope not. I've downloaded many wii u games and if it's a successor home console I want to move over all my games issue free.

I've been thinking about this. On the one hand, if the system sells better it will give Wii U games another chance to sell. But I think they'll drop it, because you would have to build gamepad support right into the system, which would overcomplicate things and make the system too expensive. I absolutely love BC, but at this point I'd like them to just move on. I don't want gamepad support AND Wiimote support to be required right off the bat. The past shouldn't drag down the future.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought BC was more about being compatible with coding and architecture of the past system and not the controller.

They can go away from BC with a modern different architecture and still use the pad or wii mote as a control option.
