Forums - Nintendo - THEORY: Nintendo dropping backwards compatibility for the NX

Too lazy to read article, but yeah I wont be surprised nor would I be bothered by no more backwards compatibility. It's not like our Wii Us will spontaneously combust when the successor arrives, nor would those who don't have a Wii U care since if they did they would already have a Wii U.

Counter-theory: Nintendo will have unprecedented backwards compatibility with the NX. BC is going nowhere.

I really like BC but I probably won't be too bothered with the next console dropping BC..

They should drop Wii compatible games and phase out the Wii+Nunchuk though..

You best hope Rol don't see this post!

I see no problem. They can leave past (BC) behind. And rise anew like a phoenix.

Eh, I'd prefer they get rid of backwards compatibility if it means it brings the price down/gets rid of the game-pad and Wii controllers

So, the two reasons you don't want BC is cost and controllers?....

I wander how much it costs the consumer to have a system have backwards compatibility?

Also, you know Wii U games for the most part can be mapped to a pro controller for most games, they will probably use whatever controller the new system has.

Your reasons are your own but it just seems like in the grand scheme of things these two things won't really be a problem anyways. If anything it will benifit Nintendo to ditch BC for a gen so they can completely change architecture. Then bring it back the gen after that.

I've been thinking about this. On the one hand, if the system sells better it will give Wii U games another chance to sell. But I think they'll drop it, because you would have to build gamepad support right into the system, which would overcomplicate things and make the system too expensive. I absolutely love BC, but at this point I'd like them to just move on. I don't want gamepad support AND Wiimote support to be required right off the bat. The past shouldn't drag down the future.

Ugh, I feel like everyone and their mother has forgotten that the NX was confirmed to NOT be a replacement for the Wii U or 3DS!

So no backwards compatibility?

They will drop it. No point having it if they want to line up their architecture with everyone else.

The question is will they go x86 or stick with the same and jsut add more cpu cores.
