I'm not a fan of it,and I don't think much people will remember it fondly
Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out
Ps4:110million
Xbox one :75 million( was 65)
Wii u: 20 milliion
I think it will be looked at similar to the way people look at VMU's for Dreamcast. It was a good idea, but never was properly utilized to its potential

I like to play WiiU games with it... I use it even more often than my Wii U Pro controller. It's a bit clunky, but not too heavy and I can reach every stick and button comfortably. Since I have the high capacity battery, the battery time doesn't annoy me anymore.
But I don't get the "innovative" part. It combines touchscreen input with controller input (sticks and buttons)... but the Nintendo DS has done that for many years, so have many Android handhelds, mobile extensions, 3DS and the PS Vita.
It's an oversized touchscreen-handheld which stops to work, when you leave the living room (or apartment if you have thin walls). ;)
im pretty sure they'll ask for one 15 years from now. only if some other groundbreaking technology doesnt comes first.
