well told you about Sonic Boom, but honestly Alien Isolation didn't do that great either if you remember that its on 5 platforms leading to a big pile of unsold copies.

Sonic Boom doesn't deserve at least 80% of the sales it has, so Sega better be quiet.

They may have had a less traumatic time than Japanese devs, but a huge number of Western devs have gone bust since the start of the 7th gen thanks to spiralling budgets due to in part to the graphical arms race.

i didnt say anything about devs, Im talking about publishers. Devs have also closed and been moved around. THQ is the only publisher that went bellyup hard last gen. So no the Western guys are doing ok. Hell UBi just said they were back to profits while Capcom and Sega are still crying

That's kind of akin to the aristocracy going okay while the middle and lower classes starve though.

Not really. how are the devs starving? i mean studios get closed down that doesnt mean they arent absorbed by bigger studios, rebranded or taken somewhere else. If the situation was that dire then it HAS to affect the publishers and since it doesnt seem to be the case with the western guys, the onus has to be on the Japanese publishers. They seem to be the only consistently crying about not making enough

I love this conversation.

It did affect publishers. Only THQ actually died, but others suffered along the way, even if they survived in the end. EA was forced to cut 11% of its workforce in 2009, for instance.
Speaking locally, the last decade has virtually eradicated game development outside of mobile here in Australia. 2K Sydney, Pandemic, Krome, Blue Tongue, Team Bondi, Sega Studios Australia, all dead. If you want to be a console dev, you pretty much have to move overseas now.
I don;t recall reading a direct quote from Sega saying Alien Isolation sales were weak. It appears they looked at over all sales and concluded weak sales based on total sales / number of games released. If Alien was their high water mark then perhaps they are right.
Sonic sales were weak considering what Sonic used to mean to the gaming world.

Alien ISO was amazing. SHame Col Marines tarnished peoples image of future Alien games.
