Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo Abandoning SNES Games on Virtual Console?

Well it takes like four seconds to emulate a 16-bit game. I accidentally downloaded Firepower 2000 while typing this post. Who was still buying them? Honest people!?! The only reason I'd buy a game from earlier than the sixth gen is if it were for a portable console or if it had a lot of upgrades.

Bring 'em to 3DS with the 3D treatment and I'll be happy. Aside from that, a lot of classics are pretty bad, now.

At this point it would be better to just emulate since Nintendo overcharges anyway.

If this wasn't just his opinion, it could be that Nintendo really wants to focus on bringing GBA, DS, N64 and Wii games to the VC.

Seriously its much more to do with exhusting the available content.

Konami for example have release 8 out of their 45 games. Now that might not seem like a lot but out of the 37 unreleased games they no longer have the rights to 10 (such as WB cartoons, Batman, Turtles etc), a further 16 are Japan only release the vast majority of which are yearly updates to their Baseball series and speaking of sports games 2 more of those are ISS games, which arguably haven't aged well enough to warrant releasing.

So taking those away Konami have released 8 out of 9.

They've exchusted the SNES, simple as that.

This is a really good post. I like it when someone really backs up what they're saying with facts and logic.

Where's the logic when publishers like Square-Enix haven't released anything so far?

That is what I was saying last time and I remember you disagreeing about it.

This has to do with fact that third party developers not called Bandai Namco,Konami or CAPCOM, with a few dabbles by other developers like Natsume, are doing absolutely nothing for ANY section of the Virtual console. GBA section is 90% Nintendo. The DS and N64  section have no third party games with nothing on the horizon so far, and those are the new sections! (developers dont to need worry about will gamers buy again if they did already on Wii)

I wonder are there plans to add the SEGA, Neo Geo, Turbo, and arcade sections back? Bummer if not. Maybe Saturn and Dreamcast support?

Nintendo can't release SquareEnix games if that company aren't on board.

The companies re-releasing SNES games on the VC have or are coming to the end of their libraries which means there's nothing left to release, hence the SNES VC support coming to an end.

It is what it is.

This wouldn't surprise me, Iwata is an idiot. I don't understand why he is still there.

Bravo! Bravisimo!

I could go on about why they take so long to release VC games, but this case is simpler. People would pay more for the DS ports of this on VC. I mean, the gamepad just screams DS games.

meh dont wan snes vc games anyway i want wii and gamecube vc games

Disappointing if true. Nintendo handled Wii Virtual Console releases far better than they are now. I can't imagine VC takes that many resources to develop anyway.. wonder why they're being so limited with their releases.
