Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo Abandoning SNES Games on Virtual Console?

Low sales

Almost noone will be affected by this

He says Nintendo has moved onto other classic systems. Probably going to see N64 titles take priority.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

TBH all VC titles should get a permanent 50% price cut because all of them are twice as much as I would ever pay for them.

The only VC games I ever bought were the 30cents games from the promotion on WiiU. I would buy every single NES game if the games would cost 30 cents but I will never pay 5 dollars and especially pounds/euros for something like that when its only digital. I would also buy hundreds of SNES games for 1-2 dollars but I would never pay 8 bucks for a digital one. I get 1 year old PC games on steam for 5-7 dollars so why buy VC games for that much?

I would buy all 1000 NES games for a total of 300 bucks. Thats exaclty 298 dollars more than I gave Nintendo so far.

VC compared to alot of other things (like PSN for example with Ni No Kuni for 5 bucks) bad price/value ratio. Sure Nintendo cannot sell Konami games for a dollar because its not really their decision but at least the Nintendo games could be sold for cheap.  If third party does not want to sell their digital zeroes and ones to more people their problem.

I mean Metroid Prime Trilogy for 10 was a steal because its 3 games. But I would never pay 20 bucks for that because I got the original physical version of that trilogy back in the day for 30 bucks.

But seriously if Nintendo would give away all their NES and Gameboy titles for free to everyone that owns both a 3DS and a Wiiu then more people would b uy that system because they would have dozens of games for free. VC right now does not seem to be that much of a money printer otherwhise Nintendo would have released SNES games on 3DS  etc.

Its probably more of a case of them running out of games to release.

Remember there'll be licensing issues with some games such as Capcoms Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, they'd have to pay for the Disney license there.

Then there's the fact that only about 5-6 companies are actively releasing VC games. Nintendo, Konami, Capcom etc have probably released the bulk of their SNES library on VC, or at least what will sell.

Just a rumor for now. Don't know why people feel the need to take every bit of commentary as truth.

I'm happy! This means we won't get all the titles that many of us already have from the Wii virtual console days and now we will get titles we haven't seen in a lot longer from the N64!

Natsume had nothing to do with Lufia, it was developed by Neverland and published by Nintendo.

Natsume's claim to fame is as a publisher of Harvest Moon.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

This wouldn't surprise me, Iwata is an idiot. I don't understand why he is still there.

The only rumour part is that Natsume's experience will be the same for everyone dealing with SNES games on Virtual Console, but it's not like what they're actually saying is some nameless forum poster rumour :P

Lufia 2's page shows them as NA publisher of Lufia 2, at least.

As for the topic, I feel this is the important part:

Ultimately Nintendo does the “bulk of the work”, and if Natsume can be believed, the Japanese games maker just doesn’t want to deal with SNES any more.

If Nintendo is doing all the work getting these games up, then since they announced new systems, it's obvious their priorities are going to shift.

As for why they're doing all the work... I assume it's QA reasons (and not wanting any vulnerabilities to slip through in 3rd-party games).  Seems extremely restrictive.

At least you can still buy the real deal for a gazillion cash.

That is what I do :
