Has this thread seen XCX?

Appearently there is a vast amount of people who haven't seen Bayo 2 or Smash either (along with some others).

Wii U could not dream of doing that in an actual game lol

Exactly what about that demo could Nintendo "not dream to do"?

Sorry I am late to respond, been busy.

But I hope you forgot the "/s". Wii U could not push those graphics in game

I think his point is not the Wii U is strong, but that the demo isn't very impressive.  And it isn't.  Digital Foundry has his back on that as well.  It's 720p, locked 30fps, no AA, polygon issues throughout, modest textures on anything that isn't slammed up against the camera, and the cherry on top is the fact that this is one isolated room with two animated characters.  This technical demonstration only has two things going for it really:  shaders and lighting.  Everything else may be pretty in presentation, but nothing special.  Even the particle effects are nothing special, just well done.  Bayonetta 2 beats it for sure if nothing else.  It accomplishes excellent visuals that match that demo but at a much higher framerate.

And yet it did in Bayonetta 2, as well as actually push those graphics at a higher framerate and resolution in Smash Bros.

Also, this

has much more going on graphically in these two seconds than the entire tech demo.

On its reveal at E3 2011, Wii U was showcased with a HD Zelda teaser that set tongues wagging:

More than two years later, do you think Wii U has cleared the visual bar set by the demo yet?

You know, you never gave us your take on whether the Wii U surpassed the tech demo or not.

Hard to judge without direct feed screens, but on a purely technical level Art of Balance appears to push more impressive effects, while Bayonetta 2 brings a similar level of fidelity to much less contrained scenarios.

I'd say no Wii U game has as fine tuned a sense of presentation, (lighting, particles, mise en scene) but a lot of that is done to its highly scripted nature and aesthetic direction.

Yeah, I gotta admit it done one hell of a job at being a tech demo. If someone were to ask me to close my eyes and imagine a Wii U Legend Of Zelda, that is probably exactly what I would think of. Navi as a side character, the detail in Link's outfit like in Twilight Princess, a dark fire lit cave, hell maybe even Gohma. Then restricting the demo to one room at 720p 30fps was a smart move to be able to add all those effects without any (at least noticable) effects on framerate.

That said, it played it absolutely safe just like every other LoZ tech demo. It never even attempted to be any more than a room in a dungeon in The Legend Of Zelda. I would almost have prefered a tech demo of Link and Zelda riding on their Loftwings to some LoZ music, flying past different locations in the World of LoZ. Maybe open with them flying past a delapitated Skyloft, getting attacked and running away (big chase scene) but we notice the clouds aren't blocking off the surface anymore. They fly low through some trees and under a bridge, then the camera cranes up and we see Hyrule Castle. Zelda and Link land behind the gates, and cue Loz theme.

I also agree with you that on a technical level it has been bested. There have been games with the same (and some with more effects) while running at 60fps and on a rare occassion 1080p.

On a side note, my college degree in audio/video production finally paid off. I knew what mese en scene was without looking it up, lol.

Yes, obviously with Bayonetta 2 and what little we've seen o Zelda Wii U but I also think other less detail games but with more stuff like Smash Bros 4, Hyrule Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles X also are superior in terms of things like active models on the screen and colors.

Besides, honestly that 2011 Zelda demo really wasn't that great anyway, especially in retrospect.

There were a few things that were obvious shortcuts they made when making the tech demo. Such as the flames in the torches all being copy/paste with a little delay. Then the fact that none of the hairs on the spiders body had any motion, and the Link model had clumped hair strands.

Compair that to the LoZ Wii U game.

The grass seperates and bends as Epona gallops through it, there are real time lighting and shadows (unlike the tech demo), Epona's tail and main hair move independantly, Link's clothing flows with the wind, the areas are MUCH bigger (obviously). It is not just better, it could almost be considered a gen leap on a technical level.

Edit: Also,

Tech Demo: No AA
