You know, you never gave us your take on whether the Wii U surpassed the tech demo or not.

Hard to judge without direct feed screens, but on a purely technical level Art of Balance appears to push more impressive effects, while Bayonetta 2 brings a similar level of fidelity to much less contrained scenarios.

I'd say no Wii U game has as fine tuned a sense of presentation, (lighting, particles, mise en scene) but a lot of that is done to its highly scripted nature and aesthetic direction.

Yeah, I gotta admit it done one hell of a job at being a tech demo. If someone were to ask me to close my eyes and imagine a Wii U Legend Of Zelda, that is probably exactly what I would think of. Navi as a side character, the detail in Link's outfit like in Twilight Princess, a dark fire lit cave, hell maybe even Gohma. Then restricting the demo to one room at 720p 30fps was a smart move to be able to add all those effects without any (at least noticable) effects on framerate.

That said, it played it absolutely safe just like every other LoZ tech demo. It never even attempted to be any more than a room in a dungeon in The Legend Of Zelda. I would almost have prefered a tech demo of Link and Zelda riding on their Loftwings to some LoZ music, flying past different locations in the World of LoZ. Maybe open with them flying past a delapitated Skyloft, getting attacked and running away (big chase scene) but we notice the clouds aren't blocking off the surface anymore. They fly low through some trees and under a bridge, then the camera cranes up and we see Hyrule Castle. Zelda and Link land behind the gates, and cue Loz theme.

I also agree with you that on a technical level it has been bested. There have been games with the same (and some with more effects) while running at 60fps and on a rare occassion 1080p.

On a side note, my college degree in audio/video production finally paid off. I knew what mese en scene was without looking it up, lol.
