Forums - Gaming - So why do you think DmC Definitive Edition sold less its first week worldwide on the PS4 and XBone than Bayonetta 2 did on the Wii U?

Why did DmC Definitive Edition sell so badly?

It's a remake. 106 50.00%

in all seriousness, what was wrong with it? I played the first two levels without any problems without downloading the patch. Seemed fine to me. Do you think that the sales will go way up now? Cuz I seriously doubt that that was its main problem. People simply saw no reason to buy it. Some hate the reboot and its developers and others liked/loved it but already have the game, so why rebuy it?

For the record, I played and beat the ps3 version when it became available on ps+, but also bought the ps4 version day 1 to support the devlopers for, what I consider, an excellent game that they made.

This is what was wrong wrong with it.  Check out the game before patch and after patch:

The game at release for the PS4 was an absolute mess.

I don't think it stopped people buying it at the start, but it stopped a lot of people buying it as soon as word got out.  Whether this patch is enough to make a difference now or if its too late is a different matter.

Thanks for the info! I had no idea. I still believe that vocal minorities give most of the reason the wrong impression about certain games, but, of course, maybe this wasn't a vocal minority case. I consider myself a well-informed gamer and still didn't know about these problems. I assume that even if it did deter some people from buying it, the numbers were not that great. I doubt all that many people knew about it. It seems to me a case of "no one" cared for the game in the first place rather than issues that the game had pre-patch.

Yeah I don't think it would have made a massive difference if it had been like it should have been at release in terms of sales. Obviously I can only account for the fact that I was one person who didn't buy it because of these problems but I will now be buying it over the weekend.  I'm sure however that sales from now onwards will be higher than if it hadn't been rectified, even if its just by a small percentage.

PREDICTIONS FOR END OF 2015: (Made Jan 1st 2015)

Here's hoping!

I don't know but I won't personally buy, rent or even play another DMC until it feels, looks and plays like the original DMC IP.

Let's look at what these two games had going for and against them (using a + - system)

DmC
+ 4x the userbase of Wii U owners (~20 mil)
+ One of the biggest name franchise in the hack and slash genre
+ Consumers who tend to buy maturer rated titles (supposedly)

- Remake
- Of a game that never really sold that well to begin with
- Only one title in the release

Bayonetta 2
+ New game
+ Exclusive
+ Advertising campaign
+ Includes the previous game remastered

- Not the type of game people usually buy on this console (supposedly)
- Only 7mil people to possibly buy it
- A sequel to a game that never really sold that well to begin with.

I thought this thread was a joke at first.  I realise now it wasn't.

Anyway, I added a few more bullet points to your surprisingly lacking list.

It's just a remaster, not a whole new game.

Not to mention that not only was Bayo 2 a whole new game, but it came packaged with a touched up version of the first game too which had never appeared on a Nintendo system before. win/win.

Like others in the thread pointed out, not only was dmc hd touched up poorly at least on the ps4, but you also have to think that a lot of the ps4/x1 crowd will have owned or still own a ps360 and the version of dmc on those systems does them justice and it can be found for 1/10th the price.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Hm. Didn't Bloodborne, a new IP and an exclusive, out-sell both of those easily?

So what do you guys think is the MAIN reason this happened?

Bad remaster of a game which could never quite keep my attention, which is the reason i personally didn't buy it.

Yup, I think overall there are more people who were put off by the reboot than those who supported / liked it.

The HD trilogy with little to no marketing and being rare on release in the west outsold DmC. I remember no one had a copy in my city when it released so I had to Find a copy online.

As much as reviewers loved it and some gamers supported it, it simply want enough for the majority.

I think we will see higher sales for dmc4 remaster although it won't even get a physical release in the west.

When if ever will Capcom learn!

Magic, obviously. It's the only possible explanation for such a surprising turn of events :p
