Forums - Gaming - So why do you think DmC Definitive Edition sold less its first week worldwide on the PS4 and XBone than Bayonetta 2 did on the Wii U?

Why did DmC Definitive Edition sell so badly?

It's a remake. 106 50.00%

Because they changed the ... 77 36.32%

See results. 29 13.68%

Total:212

Not surprising honestly. The reboot wasn't well received by both fans and critics, and the news of the remastered edition was met with a lukewarm reception. The news also came while the complaints against remastered games were on the rise, and it almost became parody of that trend. I believe things would have gone very differently if was released last year.

And no. I won't compare it to Bayonetta 2.

It sucks people hate it, none care about it.

By the way why compare new game sales to an old one.

fun fact, it's a good game.

some nerds are just too mad they changed the look of dante in a look more common in todays world.

Hm. Didn't Bloodborne, a new IP and an exclusive, out-sell both of those easily?

So what do you guys think is the MAIN reason this happened?

Magic, obviously. It's the only possible explanation for such a surprising turn of events :p

Magic, huh.  Magic.  That's certainly a factor ... but there might be others.  I wish the OP would expand the thread a bit and put that as one of the poll options.  I mean, because I'd really like to know why Bayonetta 2, which is on the Wii U, did not perform as well as Bloodborne, which is on the PS4.  Bayonetta 2 is from an existing IP, after all, and Bloodborne still outsold it.  I guess we could include an exclusive from the Xbox One but I think it's okay because we have the PS4, which is one of the Twins, as many people on these forums call them.  If we bring both of the Twins into the thread, it wouldn't be fair to the Only Child and I certainly don't want that.

Oh, and DmC, too.  I think both these games should be compared to the DmC re-release because it's such a natural comparison to make and totally not one you'd pick to make something else look good.

Desperate for Wii u game sales lol.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

because once bitten twice shy, the original game wasnt that great to begin with.

Let's look at what these two games had going for and against them (using a + - system)

DmC
+ 4x the userbase of Wii U owners (~20 mil)
+ One of the biggest name franchise in the hack and slash genre
+ Consumers who tend to buy maturer rated titles (supposedly)

+$40 instead of $60

+ Includes DLC content free

- Remake
- Of a game that never really sold that well to begin with
- Only one title in the release

Bayonetta 2
+ New game
+ Exclusive
+ Advertising campaign
+ Includes the previous game remastered

- Not the type of game people usually buy on this console (supposedly)
- Only 7mil people to possibly buy it
- A sequel to a game that never really sold that well to begin with.

I thought this thread was a joke at first.  I realise now it wasn't.

Anyway, I added a few more bullet points to your surprisingly lacking list.

I had two more.

Also I thought exclusives hurt sales and were the bane of video games existance (especially for a mature rated title on the Wii U), guess it's all who you ask.

It wasn't the looks, it was Tameem being a douchebag, the lack of puzzles, lack of fluid combat and mid move cancels, gimped devil trigger, crappy boss fights with the exception of 2 bosses that were ripped from Suda51's Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned, lack of fun and creative weapons, boring level design (linear corridor slasher), lame dialogue and lame cliché story about the media being evil and ran by the devil.

I bought a WiiU specially for Bayonetta 2, but walked away a little disappointed. It was a very short game and i'm sure Bayonetta 1 was longer.

I managed to complete the game with most secret areas found and completed within 8hrs and unless you are going to go back to score hunt, there is little reason to go back to it for your average gamer.

I'm not saying it wasn't fun, I'm just saying it was a short game.

I loved the gameplay, but the story and characters sucked compared to devil may cry. It's a shame cuz it had the makings of a great franchise

Platinumed on the hardest level? If so, you are a BEAST. I also recommend going online.

Also according to HLDITTB Bayo 1 takes on average an hour and a half longer to beat, but has Bayo 2 clocking in at 9 1/2 hours.
