Forums - Sales - Tomb Raider (2013) Moves 8.5 Million Copies

News comes from Game Informer. They have a spread on Rise of the Tomb Raider in the March issue.

Square Enix has announced that the Tomb Raider reboot originally released in 2013 has claimed a third franchise record. The title already sold more on its first day and in its first month than any other game in the series. Now it owns the top sales spot overall, too.

This morning, the publisher shared that 8.5 million copies of the reboot have been sold across all five of the platforms it was released on. The title originally launched in 2013 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. A “definitive edition” arrived on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in early 2014.

When you consider that only a few Months after the game launched it was considered a commercial failure... These numbers are fantastic.

I hope that they still don't call it a failure.

Still strange at 4 million it was a failure. Goes to show the power of rereleasing products.

That just doesn't make sense. What exactly were Square Enix expecting? COD like sales?

Oh well, great sales now at least. Looks good for the future of the franchise

This is Square Enix we are talking about, Ka-pi.

I bet now it's been upgraded all the way to "moderate success".

Well deserved.  Hopefully they have their expectations in check for the sequel.

Didn't SE said it didn't meet expectations? It's a great number. But wont be enough for SE when their flagship titles like, FF sells like shit.

Cool, I really enjoyed the game

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

deserve!!!

It sold around 3 million copies on Steam according to SteamSpy: http://steamspy.com/app/203160

But it was in many bundles lately, I bought it in a bundle, too.
