Forums - Gaming - Not making GT6 on PS4 was Sony's biggest mistake

GT5 development took 5 years (+Polyphony delivered GT PSP and Tourist Trophy in this time)

GT6 development took 3 years (2010-2013). The game was a solid entry with lots of improvements but the upgrade wasn't that big, nevertheless it's one of my favourite GT

GT6 came out a week after PS4 launch, it didn't sell well and PD has still not given sales numbers, something they had always done. Did Yoshida really think that was a good idea, especially in Europe where racing is big?

If GT6 was worked on for an extra year or 2(giving it a similar dev time as GT5), it would've come out before christmas 2015 and PS4 would've had a great system seller to go with a price cut this holiday. In 5 years since the last game they could've made GT6 something special. PD didn't need to have GT6 ready by 2013, they were living off GT5 which was still selling a few hundred thousand copies each year, and if they needed cash a GT6 Prologue would've funded the entire GT6 development like GT5:P had done.

Now instead the cycle for a new GT has only started last year which either means waiting at least until 2016 (3year devtime) for a smaller updated GT7 or waiting even longer for a bigger updated GT7 while we could've had a GT6 with big updates this holiday.

I don't expect it to reach Driveclub in visual fidelity, and considering their reluctance to do away with the standard ps2 cars, I don't think it's going to be the revolution we are waiting for. It's going to be another incremental update.

Please don't Forza-fy the series Sony!

Edit: one of my favourite openings evur

Who says we won't see GT7 this holiday?

And second GT games before GT6 released within a year of the release of the next generation console(GT2 1999, GT4 2005). I was actually surprised that a lot of people thought GT6 was going to be on PS4, while history clearly showed a second GT game alway's releases close before a new system.

Don't Forza-fy the game? So you don't want them to make it better?

And also no Vita GT among their mistake :(

that GT dude said best case scenario, next GT would be out 2014. It didn't, so there's a decent chance it could be at E3 and maybe out holidayish?

I think putting out GT6 after the PS4 came out was not a good move but it did use the GT5 engine hence only 3 years between 5 and 6. A true PS4 Gran Turismo would need 4-5 years. Polyphony should have just devoted their time and effort into a PS4 GT6, it could have been ready by this year. Instead it will come out mid-2016 at the very earliest considering we have not seen one screenshot of it. They need to ditch the GT4 car models, not have 80 Skyline R34 GTRs, have a more varied car line up... There is no excuse anymore.

Mistake ? I think not. The ps3 is still selling pretty well and who knows how many digital sales of GT were made.

With the likes of the ps4 selling like hotcakes, I can seriously say that Sony has not made too many mistakes as of lately.

The PS4 system is selling well.
New released games are selling best on the PS4,
New IP's are selling well,
3rd party multi platform games are selling best on the PS4,
Games are spaced out pretty well.

GT is the type of game that's a system seller, but as you can see with the sales of the PS4, it does not need a GT right now.

Well some of us said this from the beginning.

how is an exclusive for PS3 the best move? that is the worst possible move surely.

But what choice did they have?

GT5 was the problem, it just took too long to come out thus pushing GT6 too late in the gen and not allowing for much (if any) improvement. There really is no need to buy GT6 if you have GT5.

GT7 will sell in line with the franchise, GT6 will be forgotten.

yup agree with u, but GT5 is hard to develop thanks to the cell , and affecting all development cycle and budget, GT6 is just another result of GT5 late development, Let say, GT games on PS3 platform is not achieving a good result like it was on PS2 era. But everything has some thing good and bad for every consequence in decision maybe SONY will learn or maybe there will gain something that we don't know.

Just the opposite.

PS4 launch was expensive as hell when none at Sony were doing well, GT6 poured hundredths of million of dollars into it at a time of much financial strain.
