Whether the the game is a popular current franchise or not is irrelevant. If someone breaks the law, it's the principle of it. They can't pick and choose when to apply the law just because a game wasn't popular. Sure, let's just let large developers steal ideas from indie devs too. Or is it not ok? Picking and choosing.....picking.....and....choosing. |
You know, not everything is law and order, there needs to be a bit of humanity to everything, if we lose that, we're nothing more than robots following the lives the mighty law set us to live. Yes, the law guarrants permission to any company to strike down any use of their IPs that is not allowed by themselves, as far as I understand it, but the question is, should they do it? Why? What good could that possibly bring? What harm does this "robbery" do? Couldn't there be any other, reasonable, HUMAN, way to talk things out? No? Well, fuck us, right? Heck, it's not even the fact that I fucking hate this kind of corporal thinking, it's the fact that this way of doing things is ABSOLUTELY fucking outdated, normal companies have learned to adapt to the fact that people are incontrolable, so they've learned to embrace people, and I can guarantee you, they couldn't be better any other way, so why isn't Nintendo capable of doing it? It frustrates me to no end.
Also, yes, you can choose, there are ALWAYS multiple ways to go about these things, did Valve sue the ass out of modders of their games back in the 90's? No, they saw potential, and that's what companies like Nintendo need to open their eyes to, potential.
I'm now filled with determination.
I really doubt it. If they do take action against it worst I can see happening is them having to change the name, considering the game only used the Mother series as a base rather than it being an HD remake of one of the games in the trilogy.

I hope not. In really do want a sequel to Mother 3

I know that Nintendo is fully aware of Project M, and the reason they haven't stop that is probably because it's an "original" mod, as opposed to say, an HD version of Brawl, 1:1. |
it's also because it would be a PR disaster seeing how that game has a large, established community.
Of course they will. A cease and desist is in order. Mother fans are walking into a trap.

I don't 100% disagree or agree with you. I am just saying why they do these things. Keep in miond that Nintendo were originally a tiny company. The rules applied to them the same back then. The laws protects small indies too, but have to be applied the same to big companies. And NO, it was not the creators at Nintendo who made this choice. It was some investor and his attorney. These corportations have people with souls. Don't forget that, and don't take it out on those people. That would be like hating everyone from a country because of what one person did.
They will and they should. With all other fan projects as well >:D

I love Nintendo but it's a little funny that they essentially got their true start in video games (outside of game and watch) with a game that quite obviously ripped off King Kong. :p

King Kong was public domain by that time, as proven in Universal City Studios, Inc. v. Nintendo. Nintendo not only won at both the trial and appellate levels in that case, but they also won a countersuit they filed against Universal.
