Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Is Hurtin' In Japan, NX Really Needs To Be Out Sooner Than Later

And what would the NX solve?

Same Nintendo games. What is the point? What needs to change to gain widespread appeal isnt to drop your fans on the water and change nothing.
That is the worst thing you can do. Thats what SEGA did.

No, Nintendo needs to soldier this one out until the time is right.

NX in 2016 being able to connect with Wii U could allow Nintendo to price cut by taking out the GamePad.

New 3DS released about 6 months ago, at some point u have to stop using that as an excuse for holding well YoY.

Like i said, thru the first quarter Nintendo hardware is down 15% YoY, ur really making it seem worse than it needs to be.

If it decreases another 15-20% next YoY, then my number projections are fairly spot on for 2016 ... you think Nintendo can deal with sales that low for another year into spring 2017?

I personally don't see it. Nintendo seems to be more reactive to Japanese sales trends too, Iwata always seems to really watch weekly sales in Japan like a hawk.

I'm not really sure where u are going with this, a 3DS successor is likely to release holiday 2016 regardless, ur making it seem like Nintendo is in dire need of new hardware and that a 2016 release is them saying, "oh shit!!!! We need something NOW!!!!", when its more than likely a successor was being planned for holiday 2016 for quite some time now.

Like u have said in the past, it was Spring 2014 when Nintendo said it would be about 2 years or so when they are ready to redefine gaming or something along those lines. That means they have been planning a 2016 launch of new hardware for quite some time now, not just because 3DS/Wii U are showing 15% decline.

The only thing i hate more than the april fools threads are the nintendoom and what nintendo needs to do threads. When golden week comes around and the xenoblade bundle (which a lot of people are holding on Wii U's for) comes around I'm sure nintendo will be hurting in japan still. -_-

You think Xenoblade X is some huge game changer for the Wii U there?

The first game wasn't really even that popular on the Wii.

I'm saying it more as a counterpoint to people here at VGC who really push the "Nintendo can just sleepwalk to 2017/2018 no worries here" ... errr, some people need to wake up and actually look at some of the data that's coming ... they can't sustain this in Japan for another 2 years.

I actually wouldn't mind a spring 2017 launch for the next portable because they could likely get a very nice chipset the longer they wait, but looking at sales data I don't see how Nintendo could possibly wait that long unless they want to incur potential long term damage to their standing in the Japanese market (as in giving Sony way too much space to carve out their own momentum).

sigh,  don't even feel like explaining anything to you. Numbers will tell the story. NX is a handheld and I shall be waiting for E3 2016 for the reveal of the NX where it shall once again be a HANDHELD. :)

I don't think Sony really even pays that much to Japanese devs. Japanese devs like Square-Enix and Konami always cuddle up to Sony the first chance they get.

But Sony gets console support by default too -- if Japanese devs want to make any money overseas, they basically have to support PS4.

Wii U? Very different story.

I know that. But it would help then anyway. 3/4 ports (even if they are old) are better than 0 games

Is the Wii U going to sell 3M on that week?

The general consensus seems to be that 3DS is getting a successor in Q4 2016/Q1 2017, which gives it roughly the same length life as DS, so u made a thread dedicated to the select few people who for some reason believed 3DS would have a 7+ year life without a successor?

I don't think 3DS can have even a 6 year cycle.

5+ year cycles are supposed to be reserved really for platforms that are 100+ million sellers or have extremely strong second half lifecycle sales like the PS3/360 did (because they both started off fairly expensive and early in the cycle of HDTV adoption).
