RPG as a classification has no setting. Pen&Paper RPGs (the games which were the inspiration for videogame RPGs) have nearly every setting: Fantasy (Dungeons&Dragons), Science Fiction (Shadowrun), Pirates(Run out the guns), Horror (World of Darkness), Mice (Mouse guard), ...

So a fantasy setting says nothing about a game being RPG or not.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

I know settings are different from genre =)

I meant Zelda series uses a lot of tropes seen usually in RPGs

It is an RPG to me.
You role play as Link and immerse yourself in his day by day life.

It is slower paced, with focus on puzzles rather than heavy combat.

So it's not an rpg as all you do in 90% of the rpgs is combat.

You don't have to take the definition of RPG litteraly, the definition changed when it comes to games.
