Active 3D has just as much support as passive 3D, not sure what you mean. I'd always opt for passive though. Having 3D in a set and plenty of cheap glasses is awesome.

3D overall has poor proper support, but most salesmen will try to get people to buy active 3D.

I have a Sony TV since 2008 (I think 40"). Awesome TV! I had never problems with it!
Then I have a Panasonic TV since 2013 (52"). Great TV, but not as comfortable as the Sony one.
I would advise you to buy a Sony TV. I had never problems with Sony devices.

The two brand names I trust right now are Samsung and Vizio (not sure whats available in Australia)

My current TV is a 50' Samsung, and I know a lot of people who have Vizio's (lower cost, but seemingly just as good)

I've had Sony tvs all my life and none have ever broke down. I would always recommend a Sony tv.

Waste of money and unecessary.

Don't trust online reviews. For example, Samsung TV's are fairly good but i bought a Sony KDL-50R550 for $700 with a free year of netflix and Hulu included. The TV is the best I've come across. I used to sell TV's.

Vizio? I bought their M series. Was really trying to buy local and really wanted to like it but had to return it. No proper apps. Just widgets. Remote didnt work properly at all. Massive amoung of blobby flashlighting on screen. the E series is a good deal for a cheap TV, but high end vizios, for me, ended in disaster.

Sony and Panasonic are the highest quality if you're willing to pay a little more.
