Forums - Gaming Discussion - My TV died, need a replacement, what brands are good these days?

Consider getting a bigger tv if you can. If you have nextgen consoles, the bigger screen will be worth it, even if you just go to a 42 or 47". I wouldn't waste time on the input lag issue, as the difference is ms(milliseconds). If you think that you can tell the difference between 15 ms and 20 ms, you are fooling yourself.

As far as brand goes, Sony is good of course, but you pay more for it. Samsung and LG are good too, and usually cheaper(here in the states anyway).

It is near the end of the end....

-A lot of computer monitors are very good for gaming and come in at 32". Many have several HDMI inputs, Display Ports, etc. and have 1-5ms lag.

-Look for a good processor. Some cheaper models of good manufacturers can be sluggish. Try the TV from startup as well since some take quite a long time for users to have access to inputs, etc. even if the TV powers up quickly.

-Obviously look at input lag in game mode.

LG's 2012, 2013 and 2014 lines were brilliant. I am not sure about their 2014 line (presumably as good or better, I just haven't read up on their latest line since I haven't needed a TV.

Samsung and Sony really make the best TVs, though Sonys usually have a lower imput lag and I don't know if I've ever had a Sony electronic break on me...ever.

LG and Vizio are also good brands (though depending on where you are you might not be able to get Vizio).

Latency is the most important thing. Sony TVs are the best but among the pricey ones too. Samsung TVs are also great. I have a Samsung. Works fine, though image quality is meh.

LG would be the best bet. Samsung are getting too gimmicky and I would avoid Sony for lack of reliability.

Videophiles who also happen to game would call you crazy, lol. Their sets are not only well made and reliable, but they also have possibly the lowest input lag anywhere.

800B set for example is only ~6ms of input lag.

My Vizio p502ui-b1, which is also great for gaming comes in at ~19ms.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

In Italy Philips and Panasonic offer excellent quality, value and support, but I don't know if they do in Australia too.
Sony support is very good too here, but product prices are quite higher.
Anyhow, a Sony purchase is justifiable too, what I never understood is the success Grundig used to enjoy here, their supposed quality and reliability, maybe true in the 80's, became a thing of the past, almost an urban legend, in the 90's and later, while support was expensive, like spare parts, and inept. Same applied to AEG for white goods, it looks like German brands are very good at making people believe they keep on offering high quality even when it's a long gone past.
About Samsung, I just hate it, I got only one barely decent device from them, while my parents have been ripped off countless times with phones that are pure crap.

Had a TCL that lasted me 4.5 years, but it developed some mild burn-in lines in the last year before dying tonight.

I am looking for good image quality and low latency, but price is also a factor as I'm on a budget. (I probably shouldn't spend more than $600 AUD)

32" will suffice, as my old one was satisfactory at that size.

Anyone in the know?

Vizio makes a great 120 hrz 32 1080 for around $300 usd
