Consider getting a bigger tv if you can. If you have nextgen consoles, the bigger screen will be worth it, even if you just go to a 42 or 47". I wouldn't waste time on the input lag issue, as the difference is ms(milliseconds). If you think that you can tell the difference between 15 ms and 20 ms, you are fooling yourself.
As far as brand goes, Sony is good of course, but you pay more for it. Samsung and LG are good too, and usually cheaper(here in the states anyway).
