Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo going mobile was NOT their most important announcement.

I think Nintendo said DeNA will help with the network, but it's something Nintendo themselves is designing and running. They made it sound like DeNA's involvement was more of a just in  a secondary role.

The main reason DeNA is there is because Nintendo is not used to/can't supply the daily smartphone content that would keep people coming back to their apps, that's their main role.

Nintendo was moving in this direction even before the DeNA deal ... remember Miiverse being on PC/smartphones/3DS/Wii U/etc.

I don't think that what I described makes DeNA anything more than a secondary role. I think it's clear that this goes well beyond a simple mobile deal.

I also mentioned Miiverse in the post. I agree that that was them moving in this direction. And they failed, because they had no clue what they were doing. I don't think DeNA has anything to do with keeping people coming back daily. Nintendo knows how to do that. Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, and Brain Age prove that. DeNA is there for the infrastructure and likely the pricing models.

Wow, what you proposed sounds like it could be a very smart move for Nintendo. By using an app through smartphones and getting people so sign up and play their games via this app sounds like a good way to tap that market into buying Nintendo hardware. If they can get more people to get this app and join in, this could be the way to pull people in. The more they offer, the more likely it could work. And with almost everyone using smartphones these days, it just sounds like a really good idea. : ) Dang Spemanig...

Many have already said it; you don't spend over $100 million on a company, just to dip your toes into mobile.e game will be is anyone's guess, but for my money, it'll be something like this game:

Now these normal people have a connection to Nintendo that they didn't have before, and that connection can bleed into their hardware, through those accounts they now care about. Now parents who played the games with their kids are more likely to get them a Nintendo console, because they can get all these discounts on games through the account they already have. Someone in their 20's who used to love Pokemon and downloaded Pokemon TCG to relive his childhood with his college mates may pick up a new Nintendo handheld to play the next Pokemon game.

Nintendo did not spend nothing, they buyed Dena shares for $100m and Dena buyed Nintendo shares for $100m.

This second paragraph is essential, but I dont agree that Nintendo mobile was not most important announcement.

We already know that Nintendo unified account is coming, we already know they want account for smart devices, we already know that they want to have something like Android and iOS, we already know that successor for Nintendo Club coming this fall, but we didn't know they will release games for mobiles.

We didn't actually know any of the that except for the club Nintendo part. It was all rumors and speculation and most of them were just that Nintendo wanted to unify their handheld and home console markets. What is potentially happening after this announcement seems like a much bigger deal and I truly hope they can make it work.

Very interesting read! One thing though, I just hope Nintendo doesn't focus too much of their "direct" time during E3 on this possible Nintendo app. Having an "advertizing app" is one thing, and good to attract lost wii/ds users, but what current wiiu/3ds owners want is fresh new content. So far 2015 has been quite a dissapointment (though MM3D is amazing) with regard to new games.

Too much attention on apps during E3 may just alienate their core audience...

Who am I kidding... When Xenoblade Chronicles releases, all will be forgiven, whatever they announce at E3

I really hope that Nintendo's next home console/handheld don't put too much focus on amiibos. I feel like that could be something that could ruin their entire plan because while amiibo is quite popular right now I can't help but wonder how long it's gonna last before the bubble bursts. I'm not saying amiibo is going to completely disappear but like all trends, it's going to die down fast.

I've actually been thinking about that. I mean, technically mobile is now a core part of their gaming strategy going forward. I'm not sure if we'll learn about the app, or mobile games there. They could just leave it for a Nintendo Direct.

But I wouldn't count it out, even though it would frustrate me.

Catch up will ya?

Well, as I said in another thread: not everyone has enough moneyto spend it on something that is seen as pure entertainment. For you, your job not only mean you have money, but also that these devices in some sort represent not only entertainment but are also connected to work. A mobile developer will have a smartphone and a car-designer will have a car. So don't be too smug about your console-collection.

Still, you also no Nintendo-hater obviously. Still you radiate often enough negativity towards Nintendo in a pretty vocal manner, so I would say you're biased against Nintendo.

I think it'll be a big part if their plans for a long time. It's just too successful. Too bad Nintendo can't use NFC widely on mobile yet. Even if Aiibo do die though, it's not like it's their core pillar or anything. It was just an extra well they could tap.
