Some are speculating that Clarkson will be replaced. Celebrity names such as Alan Partridge, a character of comedian Steve Coogan, radio host Chris Evans, and car nut Jodie Kidd have been bandied around in British media.

Alan Partridge would be interesting, but I think Tommy Saxondale would be a better fit.

I don't think I could watch Chris Evans for more than 5 minutes.

Fuck the BBC pretty much sums up my thoughts on it.

And with that bombshell Top Gear is dead. Can't blame them, but the show won't be the same without him.

What a bunch of morons.

They're inflicting a massive hit on their wallet over a little punch (Boohoo a swollen lip is it?) and some swearing. Directed at an assistant producer no less. No offense to him, but he's a nobody in this equation. If it had been one of Clarkson's co-hosts or the head producer or something of that nature ya, you have a problem, but an assistant producer? Who the fuck cares? I'd have sooner replaced that guy than Clarkson.

So you believe that the UK government/people of the UK should pay this mans salary? An aggressive, racist man who committed a crime (again) and will do so again. He doesn't suit the BBC and would be better off with netflix or someone else.

Racist really? A racist joke does not make a man racist.

To be honest I do think Jeremy Clarkson should be punished. I am a big fan of the show, but punching someone goes a bit too far. But I do find BBCs decision a bit to extreme.

I always considered Clarkson kind of a jackass douchebag, and I'm pretty sure he was complicit in forcing Tiff Needell. However, I would be lying if I said the interplay between James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson wasn't the exact reason for the popularity of the show. Like him or not, Top Gear lost part of what made it a highly entertaining show.

It's unlikely they'll be able to find a replacement that is able to create the same kind of atmosphere those three produce. So, I doubt my interest in the show will continue past this point. It's a shame, it was a great show while it lasted.

I feel the same way. Clarkson was without a doubt an arse, but the dynamic between him, Hammond and May is what made me enjoy the show so much. The BBC are going to have a hard time replicating that.

Headline might as well be "Top Gears dropped from BBC".

so BBC is losing one of their top shows because some dude wasnt able to do his job, and got in a fight with the star of the show over it? well done BBC...

That's the thing, the guy was at fault really but there are ways of dealing with things that don't go right at a job, fists are not the way to do it obviously they were argueing first and I'd imagine Jeremy took offense to the fact that there were meals for other staff just not the 3 presenters. Like I said tho, he shoulda just sent an angry letter to the Guardian... Dear "so called" Director of the "so called" Top Gear.

Why are people defending Clarkson? He beat up a guy FFS...

LOL if the guy was 'beat up' he wouldn't off been able to drive himself to the hospital.  Are you seriously telling me you've never seen a fight at work? familiarity breeds contempt and working with the same people day in and out for years well tempers run high.
