Forums - Gaming - Give your reason as to why remasters are good/bad

The only reason against remasters would be that it takes time that could otherwise be spent on new games. But then again the time and manpower spent on remasters is laughably small compared to creating a new game. Remasters are outsourced most of the time anyway.

So no, there is absolutely no reason against them. Ane everyone who is against them is obviously anti games and anti fun.

I don't mind them, I just think announcing the remaster of just a single God of War game is stupid and watch the price be 40 bucks or something ridiculous. Just not a good deal imo. I had the same problem with Halo CE remaster on 360.

i want new games if i wanted the old ones i would have stayed at last gen. So no remasters please. Except for truly amazing games like the last of us, gta v, halo mcc and probably some others. These are masterpieces everyone needs to play them so i am cool with that even if i already played them. Also underated games like Alan Wake are cool for remasters so more people buy/play them and we a get a sequel.

I like remasters, if....
...the original was on a handheld.
...the original had shitty console performance. (Lookin at you, Metro.)
...the original is somehow scarce in this digital age.
...the original is a game I really liked, and the new version has bennies (like all DLC, using new controller features, etc.)

If a remaster doesn't fit any of those parameters, I probably won't care about it.

(imo) There are two reasons to remake a game:
1. The game is unable to be purchased elsewhere:
ex. Grim Fandango, Homeworld, Xenoblade Chronicles
2. The game is significantly dated or has fixable flaws:
ex. Wind Waker, Homeworld, Phantom Dust, Ocarina of Time

I agree with this. 'Remasters' of really new games just seem like cheap cash grabs (that is if they're easy to find, anyway). I don't really care enough though since I don't own platforms that are flooded with remasters.

I just think that when a PORT or remake happens it should be because the original version is not easily available anymore.

more games to play on the console = bad. how dont you get it?

Quantity =/= Quality

you realize that mostly the best games are the ones getting the remastered treatment, right?

If youre going to charge me again for the same game, then it better have more content...

Not like you're forced to buy the game.  It's nice for those who are interested, and new games are still coming.  They aren't trying to replace new games, they are trying to supplement them since games are becoming very ambitious and thus take a lot more time to complete.

Have they re-released lots of bad games?

The remasters have gotten out of control. Who the hell asked for a remaster of GOW3?...or DMC4?...or Darksiders 2?

Its ridiculous. The reason why they sell is because theres shit else to buy. If 2014 was anything like 2007, then we wouldnt see any more remasters.

Lets take new games that are exclusive to the new gen for the PS4. Knack, InFamous SS, Killzone SF, Dying Light, The Order 1886.........Im having trouble already...hmmm...........I honestly cant think of another one. Thats 18 months into its life. Compared to last gen, its a fucking joke.

I know. I played the ones I wanted to play last gen... GTAV on PS4 doesnt make the PS4 library any better. Its just filler.

I don't mind remasters since it's pretty much just giving options and filling in gaps where there would be droughts. There are going to be people that haven't played games being remastered that want to and this is their chance to do so. If you don't like it, you can just ignore it.
