I did look up gameplay of the original when this was announced, I never saw a single one of these "really cool combos" that consisted on combining a bunch of spells and pulling off anything impressive.  Care to show me some examples?

sorry, I'm certainly not going to watch through random youtube videos for you to find an entangle, floor breaker impale combo

it is a relatively slow and deliberate game not unsimilar to the Souls series

Looks like Infamous.

Why are you judging unfinished games?

The difference is that Nintendo first party was working on it and we know they can deliver quality. The first picture looked great and the second picture looked much better. Microsoft is different they hire more outside developers. They just have a lot of IP's that they themselves don't know what to do with. Thats what happens when major game they've ever made were bought.

If you think that gif looks bad then you should see the full 3 minute video. I almost fell asleep a minute in

Oh boy.. I think it might be a bit early to judge the game, but still..

Looks good, but is a prototype. Who knows how it will end!!

Edit: I hope the new studio polish this game, in the video it really looks like a prototype but they have probably more than a year working on it....

This version basically looks like an HD remake of the original. Indeed, the developer claims that they were aiming for more of a remake than a reboot. It seems like Microsoft wants a reboot however. It's a tricky situation Microsoft faces imo, if they change too much they risk chasing away the fans of the original, but if they change too little they risk the ability to lure in new fans.

Also, it's easy to forget that this is pre-alpha footage, the game was in development for less than 8 months before it was cancelled.

I think Microsoft was going to use this game as bait for JRPG fanatics because they said it wasnt going to be a card game but rather a JRPG.

They may as well just go with the reboot since it's hardly worth keeping what's little of the original fanbase ...
