Go with the best food buff and abuse the dragoon technique. It's OP and saved me in that encounter.

You lost me at random encounters, so glad that I didn't pre-order this.

Turn-based has its placed and dedicated franchises to it like Disgaea, Bravely Default, Fire Emblem and Dragon quest (I think?) to name a few. FF has been changing so radically in the past few titles (both main ones and spin offs) It has split the community quite a bit but I think that's the beauty of FF, you get a new story and experience every time (mostly), for better or for worse. I don't wanna extinguish turn-based, that would be selfish, but with technology getting better, developers have so much more freedom with how they approach combat. It can get more fast paced, flashy-er and bigger in scale. That's kinda what I meant, developers have much more power to make combat more "realistic" as oppose to the limitations that older consoles like SNES and PS1 had back when JRPGs were all the rage and turn-based was more prominent. |
But FF was a dedicated franchise of the Turn based combat, in reality it still in, FF13 is evidence of that, bad evidence as it was poorly done but it was meant to be turn based.
The thing is, we've only actually had 2 main series FF (non-MMO) titles since the last turned based on and both just had variations on turn based, FF12 was open world turn based thing and 13 fast paced mess with control of only 1 character.
Okay, realistic is good but what is the point of realistic in a game called Final Fantasy?
Hmm, pie.

you can strategize better with the enemies already there. also if youre going to walk around them why even play the game? You might do that when you're low on health or something, just like you can run away from fights in random encounter games |
But that's just it, I don't want to strategise before I even go into the battle, I want to have to do it on the fly. If i see a bomb before I fight them, I know to switch to an ice weapon or have fire protection, but if I don't I can't so have to make amends in battle. This is far more interesting.
Hmm, pie.

The overworld has them and you can just ride a chocobo if you dont want to fight them. The rest of the game has zone based encounters (like most modern RPGs).
psn- tokila

Oh, okay, I guess that fixes it, only if you don't get under-leveled for ignoring them, though.

Either way it is such a pleasent suprise. I literally jumped out of my chair and yelled "Fuck yes" when I walked out of the "base" to find myself in an old school overworld. I really had no idea what I was getting into with game. I wanted the demo and IGN, Gamespot, and Gametrailers all gave it an 8 which is a specacular score for a PSP port. |
Crisis Core is amazing. Really really amazing. This guy clearly knows what he's doing
After a solid (really really good) 3 hours with XV I've got a bit more stuck into this and I'm mostly enjoying it, but it's still definitely a PSP game!
The only real problem is that the camera basically gives me a headache is flies around so ridiculously quickly. But the combat is great fun so far, I'm looking forward to playing more
I'm pleasantly suprised by this game as well. The combat system is pretty fun, but a little on the easy side so far. Having 12 members was overwhelming at first, but after a while, it became manageable. I like that each one out pretty much has their own fighting style. I also enjoy the school setting.
One thing I don't like (aside from the camera) is the amount of enemies. They're so few on screen; I enter a big area, and there's only three enemies on the whole field which is underwhelming.
I'm going on ahead and assume I'm the first person to notice the typo in the title.
