What is it with companies these days announcing a game, then going into radio silence for months and months on end, letting the hype die away instead of maintaining it, all the while assuring us that it's "coming along well" but showing nothing to substantiate such claims?

Look at Nintendo; we have seen absolutely nothing of Yoshi's Woolly World, Devil's Third, or Starfox since E3... 9 months ago. They tell us Devil's Third looks "so much better now", yet provide not so much as a screenshot to prove it. Is it really so hard to just take a sceen or two and post them to twitter, just to throw us a bone?

Then there's The Last Guardian, which Sony tells us every year is still in the works, yet hasn't actually been seen in nearly six years. It's become a running joke.

And don't even get me started on FAST Racing Neo. First they tell us the first media is coming in "early 2014"; what we got was three measly screenshots, in September. They said the game itself was "coming 2014", yet here we are, 3 months into 2015, and we still don't have so much as a trailer. Then, a few weeks ago, they said new media was "being prepared". Guess what? It hasn't arrived, and last night when asked about it, they say they have "nothing to announce yet". Of course, this hasn't stopped them making grandiose promises and hyping the game to the moon and back.

Bottom line: don't tell, show.

Meh, I can wait.

There was never any hype to maintain for Woolly World or Devil's Third to begin with.

Honestly I'm not really that bothered, I'd like them to maybe at least show progress on one of their directs.

I just feel the more the game gets hammed up and hyped to hell that for some people (not everyone mind) they end up losing interest or get put off by it, I get put off many games that are overhyped to hell and end up trying them months to years down the line when the hype is gone and I go to see what all the fus is about, sometimes it turns out to be a good game and sometimes it doesn't and I feel the hype at times can really crush some games if they under deliver.

I would totally love to see progress on what Nintendo's doing with their games but at the same time I don't need to know every day what's going on with their games, maybe an update every 2-3 months at most, they should still focus more on advertising though, they really need that more than telling us what game is is looking like from month A to month B.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

It doesn't really matter to me. Just make a good working game, release some info/trailers about it shortly before game release. I'll decide if I buy it or not. I don't need constant progress reports on games.

FExSMT is a prime example...

Fark, how could I have forgotten that one.

It's almost worse than The Last Guardian; that at least had a proper trailer!

Things get announced far too early most of the time and get release dates even earlier.

Let's not even discuss Shin Megami Tensai x Fire Emblem; over 2 years since announcement, and not a single shred of material to show for itself.

Bottom line: don't tell, show.

Nintendo can be quite notorious with this, leaving us in the dark for such a long time. I`m guessing they do it to wait until they are closer to completing their games, or have something to really wow their audience. SMT x FE is their worst case. I wish they would show more, but I think showing progress too often, such as many trailers, can also harm a game. If they show too much, some of that joy is lost, and people can get too much of the game before release, and may lose interest in it. I do agree Ninten should stop teasing us so much...
