Forums - Gaming - Sony and Nintendo need to announce something big at E3

While it's always nice to have any company have a "big announcement" at E3, simply because we've gotten used to expecting such over the years, I don't know that Nintendo NEEDS to have one. I think they likely will. They have more years than not.

However, I think just showing more of this Zelda U, and unveiling this so-called "Star Fox" game (We'll see whether it's worth a shit or not), very well may be enough. Zelda is their big game of 2015, at this point, and what little we've seen looks like it COULD be amazing. The question is, will it live up to even some of it's potential. Hopefully it will.

LOL you can't be serious! It's not Microsoft's E3 to lose at all when it comes to expected games, it's most definitely Sony's. I mean when you list the potentials for each Sony's has a lot more potentials, mainly because their stuff hasn't had any gameplay from a previous event, besides Uncharted 4.

Now stuff we have a good idea of would be 1)Horizon (Guerrilla Games new IP, presumed in development at Amsterdam), a new 3)Killzone or 4)Resistance (either or both could be worked on by Guerrilla Cambridge). 5)God of War 4 or a restart of the series. 6)Gran Turismo 7, 7)Ratchet & Clank (this could be a huge Fall 2015 title, especially with the Movie Release happening around the same time), 8)Sly Cooper (is getting a movie release next year), 9)Media Molecule's New IP, 10)Quantic Dream's New IP.

11)Dinosaurum Game's new IP Without Memory. 12)The Last Guardian, 13)Agent.

14)Sony Bend's New IP, 15)Level 5's game, which could be a new Ni No Kuni, White Knight Chronicles or a new IP, 16)Gravity Rush 2, 17)Sony London (Maybe The Getaway or a full Heist game, 18)Sucker Punch.

Morpheus Games, which some of the above could potentially have Morpheus VR features built into, namely a full Heist game, Media Molecule's new IP, Gran Turismo 7, maybe Killzone or Resistance, possibly even Quantic Dream's new game.

For Microsoft the major new ones would be 1)Banjo, 2)Gears 4 or a refresh of the series, 3)Forza 6, 4)Kameo, 5)Scalebound, 6)Halo 5, 7)Crackdown, maybe 8)Phantom Dust, but that game's been getting a lot of negative info surrounding it, like it may have been canned or changing of developers, so it's probably way off from any potential release. 9)Battletoads.

Quantum Break has been shown several times already, people know what to expect from that already, same goes for Killer Instinct, it'll just be character and stage additions, it's not really a compelling new title like the ones mentioned above.

Halo 5 has had gameplay shown for it's multiplayer already, while it will be exciting to see single player gameplay, it's a game that has already had gameplay shown for the game.

Really Sony has about 2X the potential games, then there's also the stuff we really have no clue about, like 3rd party partnerships that happen on the quiet, both sides have those. There's also unknown new developers that both companies could have been building studios for in the background.

It's definitely Sony's E3 to lose out of both Sony and Microsoft.

Nintendo are an interested company, really we only know for sure that Zelda and Starfox are getting gameplay and some new details for those games, it's fair to say that the likes of Devil's Third, maybe Splatoon and Xenoblade could have something if they aren't released before E3. It's possible a new F-Zero, Metroid, core 3D Mario game are announced and potentially unveiled. Largely Nintendo's stuff will be a surprise.

Overall I think Sony has the most potential, simply because their devs have been quiet for a long time. Microsoft are actually the platform holder that has the least potential to show new games they've never announced before.

Nintendo could be next on my list and most gamers, because they seem to have a lot more potential surprises than Microsoft.

If past MS E3 conferences have taught us anything it's that they mainly focus on 3rd party games, so we can probably expect to see new stuff from EA, Activision. They'll put a lot of focus behind Halo, Tomb Raider and Forza 6, but we already know about that stuff coming and Tomb Raider isn't an exclusive to Xbox One, it's coming to 360 and it's also a timed exclusive, which will definitely be coming to PS4 and PC in 2016.

MS promises games to be shown at E3, but what they normally end up doing is showing 3rd party multiplats, announcing new games with CG, both Sony and Nintendo actually surprise with new announcements and mainly with gameplay and it's been the case for the last 5 E3s at the least, if not more since the beginning of the 7th gen.

Both Microsoft and Sony rely on third party and yes, I know that Sony has proven time and time again that despite having less studios that they can outdevelop Microsoft. Thats just this thing, Microsoft hasn't been fighting them with their studios but with outside third party and paying for them to develop not only their own IP's but new IP's. Its the smart way to go when they cant internally beat Sony at their own game. What I am saying is Microsoft is killing it with their games right now. Microsoft has the ability to stay quiet more easily than Sony because no one expects more from them. Everytime we see a leak its always at Sony. We know The Last Guardian trademark was found, we knew about Bloodborne before it was unveiled because it was leaked and we also knew about Until Dawn and I believe we knew about Helldivers was coming as well. With Microsoft we never knew about Scalebound or Sunset Overdrive until it was announced their E3's. Microsoft has a tighter lid than Sony. We know to expect God of War 4, Uncharted 4 footage, Guerillas new IP and most likely GT7 will be announced. Microsoft could have even more coming that hasnt even been mentioned yet. Forget about the fact that Sony's winning. Everyones looking at Sony because they are expecting new games from them regardless. I am saying in terms of exciting new games Scalebound, Quantum Break, Tomb Raider 2 and Halo 5 will have gameplay showcases as well reveals of Gears 4 is coming and Microsoft will more than likely will come with new announcements from outside studios that they've published games for. As long as they keep paying outside developers to keep bringing hits to their console exclusively they've got the edge even though they dont have the overall hype. The Nintendo Wii didnt have the major hype for their year in 2010, but with all of their reveals it was pretty much unanimous that Nintendo had won. I hadn't played a Nintendo console since the N64 and I admit that I was blown away. When I get the Wii U I am playing everything I missed from the Wii. As for the Wii U's reveals? I don't really know right now.

First of all in the future can you please not write replies in a wall of text? It's much nicer for the person replying to you.

As for your arguments for why Microsoft should have a more exciting conference, they're not really valid. I mean Sony has more proven internal studios than Microsoft and they also have more internal developers than Microsoft does actually working on PS4 exclusives.

Your idea that Microsoft has been using external teams, presumes that Sony hasn't been doing so, which isn't right at all. Looking at the amount of outright exclusives coming to PS4 this year Sony only has Tearaway Unfolded and Kill Strain (so 2) which are completely internally developed games, AAA that are coming to PS4 in 2015.

The rest of PS4's 2015 line-up 3)The Order (Ready at Dawn), 4)Bloodborne (From Software), 5)Until Dawn (Supermassive Games), 6)Ratchet & Clank (Insomniac), 7)Drawn To Death (Bartlett Jones Supernatural Detective Agency), 8)Fat Princess Adventures (Fun Bits Interactive), 9)Let it Die (Grasshopper Manufacture) 10) Deep Down (Capcom). There's also indies as well, so 20% of the AAA games coming this year are made by external developers, in some cases supported by an internal Sony studio like Santa Monica, Japan or San Diego.

The indies are also technically Sony funded and published, so you can add 11)WiLD, 12)Rime, 13)Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, 14)Alienation, 15)The Tomorrow Children and 16) Shadow of the Beast, all exclusive.

Sony are more killing it on the exclusives front, just based on the numbers of titles and variety coming, the quality of the developers behind them speaks for itself. It's largely fresh new games, with a few classic franchises mixed in. Playstation feels very much fresh.

Microsoft on the other hand only has Quantum Break for a 2nd party 2015 exclusive for Xbox One, Forza 6 and Halo 5 are the only other exclusives confirmed for release in 2015. Rise of the Tomb Raider is only a timed exclusive, will definitely come to PC and Playstation, but even if that was only XBox One only there's nothing exclusive besides those 4 games. Tomb Raider is also coming to 360 when it releases on XB1, so that leaves 3 exclusives in 2015, not really killing anything in my eyes.

The fact Sony has managed to bolster PS4's exclusives line-up, with 16 titles for 2015, next to Microsoft's 3 really says it all. Most of those games were kept a secret until they were officially unveiled, even if names leaked the actual details about newly revealed titles were kept quiet until the developers or Sony officially talked about them.

That brings me to your claim that Microsoft somehow keeps more secrets than Sony, the likes of the MCC, Forza Horizon 2, Crackdown, Phantom Dust and many others have been talked about before officially being announced, with details coming good insiders like Shinobi602, Microsoft actually has the worse track record, with Sony and Nintendo keep secrets far better.

Really in the Sony vs Microsoft argument as I said above Sony has more proven developers, yet they have revealed more externally developed games to be 2015 exclusives for PS4 this year, out of 16 exclusives for the year, only 2 are 1st party developed in their entirety and maybe a few more of the 2nd party games are given a helping hand by Sony Worldwide Studios, the rest all work externally on PS4 exclusives. That basically means that many more 1st party games are probably in the works and given Sony's developers track records it seems highly likely they have a pretty huge catalog of stuff to reveal this year.

Given the relationships that Sony has with external studios, their level of software sales in the industry that would have to bode well for any partnerships that Sony could have made with 2nd and 3rd party developers throughout 2014 and so far this year. The fruits of the 2014 deals will probably be the 1st to be revealed.

In a discussion about software support no one should ever forget which platform holder is selling the most software from 3rd party, it's just no logical to ignore that, it means that Sony are in the better position to gain those games, if that wasn't the case then something like Street Fighter 5 wouldn't have happened, despite Microsoft selling more XBox One's than 360 at aligned sales times. If sales data was pointing towards Xbox One selling close to PS4 then the deal wouldn't have happened.

The point here is that Sony doesn't even have to pay much for a measure of exclusivity or outright exclusivity, because the games are going to sell so much more on PS4 than Xbox One.

Sony isn't just winning the hardware race with PS4, they're winning the race of who sells the most games and that's what matters most to publishers.

Many of Sony's 1st party studios work on more than one project at once, what they're going to have at E3 or any of the game's conferences this year is largely a surpise, we only know that those 1st party studios have been busy for a long time on games and that Sony has been able to surprise with huge deals from external studios as well in the past.

Microsoft hasn't shown their focus on the exclusives front in the same way as Sony, the fact Sony has more announced for 2015 and that was the case before we even entered this year speaks for itself. MS hasn't shown that this is likely to change, maybe they will pull out more stops at E3 this year, but there's very little evidence of that happening from my point of view.

W/E. Your format isn't any better, its going to cause me to have to answer each point you made in bold. The correct way was proper paragraphs, but I was on my cellphone when I was responding and its pretty hard to manage everything there.

As for your arguments for why Microsoft should have a more exciting conference, they're not really valid. I mean Sony has more proven internal studios than Microsoft and they also have more internal developers than Microsoft does actually working on PS4 exclusives.

I never said anything different from this, you're just going on because you want to (feel smarter now?). I already admitted Sony's internal studios are more proficient than Microsofts (So the validity of this statement is nil). You're preaching to the choir.

I never alluded at all that Sony wasn't using third party. I've said in the past that Microsoft's sweet spot is using outside devs to do the majority of their work. Because Sony can outdevelop them, themselves and have third party help to sweeten the library. Microsofts sweet spot is primarily using third party and buying up IP's. Sony's is buying studios rearing them to newer creative ends and releasing a fleet of new IP. Tear away is a PSVita game...and hopefully it sells well. As for Kill Strain...I'll have to check that out.

I already know this. I am talking about larger games though. I know Sony has more indies, which should've been common sense to anyone since 2013. Hopefully the Rachet and Clank Reboot is good, but we've already seen a new IP out of insomniac. Not to say I wont play Ratchet and Clank because I will. Drawn to Death doesn't have a release date but it looks promising. I truly hope what they are saying isn't true about it being F2P. Most of the time that we talk about these games we're talking about slots for major titles. For instance Bloodborne is coming and I cannot wait for that; However, I know Microsoft will combat that by having a sale on the Xbox One to mask the exclusives drought they are having until third quarter. Sony had more hype for major exclusives in the first quarter (dropped the ball with The Order) and second quarter, but the third and fourth has more hype for Microsoft. Bloodborne looks like a hit to me though.

We'll see how all of those games look around E3.

This is my only major point. Wait and see, but at the same time Sony and Nintendo need to show larger titles. This is the major point of my topic.

The indies are also technically Sony funded and published, so you can add 11)WiLD, 12)Rime, 13)Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, 14)Alienation, 15)The Tomorrow Children and 16) Shadow of the Beast, all exclusive.

Both companies have indies and arguablly Microsoft started the initiative on consoles, but Sony is running with the ball because MS screwed up. Personally, right now on the PS4 its better to be hot on that real estate right now.

Sony are more killing it on the exclusives front, just based on the numbers of titles and variety coming, the quality of the developers behind them speaks for itself. It's largely fresh new games, with a few classic franchises mixed in. Playstation feels very much fresh.

In your opinion. In my opinion my Xbox One is more fun than my PS4 right now because of major titles. Indies are killing it right now for Sony until their AAA exclusives beef up. Can't wait to play Helldivers. Opinions are opinions.

Tomb Raider being a timed exclusive is no small thing when Microsoft does it (If you recall last generation). Bioshock became big on the Xbox 360 because Microsoft moneyhatted its timed exclusivity. Microsoft had Bioshock exclusive for like what...a year? The same goes for Mass Effect and Ninja Gaiden. Timed exclusivity causes people to primarily look for that platform if they want that game if its that important to them. There are a lot of people that still don't know that Tomb Raider is a timbed exclusive. You would be surprised.

Can't wait to see those sixteen hot titles. Obviously when we make these lists we're talking about ones that will be pretty popular. Can't wait!

I cannot confirm that Microsoft has more leaks than Sony. Even when I was all Sony towards the end of last gen most of the leaks came from them. This is probably why Microsoft had so many megatons at E3 taking exclusices from Sony and no one was the wiser until it happened back in like 2008. Remember when we found out Final Fantasy, Tekken and other games werent going to be exclusive to the playstation? People flipped.

Once again...preaching to the choir you're making an argument about Sony's prowess as a developer where there is none. I've always told people that Sony starts off slow and if you think this is good for Sony, just wait for the next couple of years. They are only going to get better, despite the fact that Sony said they wont be making as many AAA titles as they did last gen.

Given the relationships that Sony has with external studios, their level of software sales in the industry that would have to bode well for any partnerships that Sony could have made with 2nd and 3rd party developers throughout 2014 and so far this year. The fruits of the 2014 deals will probably be the 1st to be revealed.

Obviously, same went for Microsoft last gen. If you're winning and third party is selling you will get more deals by default. Selling well in general is why the PS3 gained a lot of multiplats that Microsoft had paid for in the past.

No one is ignoring that fact. I'm just poinitng out key titles and Microsoft has more key releases planned for this year. Depending on whether games get pushed back is the question on top of the E3 fallout.

The point here is that Sony doesn't even have to pay much for a measure of exclusivity or outright exclusivity, because the games are going to sell so much more on PS4 than Xbox One.

I also know this. To add in Japan Sony is the primary platform for a lot of non-Nintendo japanese games. They tend to get exclusives by default over there.

Sony isn't just winning the hardware race with PS4, they're winning the race of who sells the most games and that's what matters most to publishers.

Obviously. Same thing happened last gen with the 360 unless people pay out of pocket for perks.

Many of Sony's 1st party studios work on more than one project at once, what they're going to have at E3 or any of the game's conferences this year is largely a surpise, we only know that those 1st party studios have been busy for a long time on games and that Sony has been able to surprise with huge deals from external studios as well in the past.

I know this. I've been saying that on VGChartz for a while.

Neither company has hit their stride with major exclusives yet, which is why you still hear alot of people stating that other generations started off better. I disagree. I have been very vocal with criticism of Microsoft, but since Phil Spencer has made MS all about games things have changed for the better. As for my most anticipated game in Uncharted, that will be the highlight of E3 for me no matter what. I am just saying Sony needs more major titles. Hence my title being, "Sony and Nintendo need to announce something big at E3".

Obviously, same went for Microsoft last gen. If you're winning and third party is selling you will get more deals by default. Selling well in general is why the PS3 gained a lot of multiplats that Microsoft had paid for in the past.

My way deals with all relevant points, separated into easy to read paragraphs for the other person's benefit. Writing on a smartphone doesn't prevent you from creating paragraphs.

If those are your insecurities that's not my fault, I'm merely dealing with all of your points, I'm not going on as you put it, no need to get testy here, it's only a forum. If you make a claim, which the evidence doesn't support then expect people to call you on it, especially in a forum like this. Same goes for making a thread that people don't agree with, expect it to be dissected.

Actually you said that Microsoft are fighting Sony with 3rd party, I pointed out that Sony are actually using 3rd party more than Microsoft, which is a fact, because way more of their games are actually coming from external studios in the near future, meaning they actually still have their 1st party games to continue to bolster their exclusive library.

If Sony hasn't got as many 1st party exclusives as 3rd party, but they definitely have 1st party studios working on a lot of games, then at some point they need to announce those titles, many of those games have been in development for a very long time.

This basically shows that Sony not only outdevelops Microsoft with their internal resources, but also external, meaning there's very little that Microsoft can do to outperform Sony in game quality and output. Having software sales dominance also means that it's way more likely for Sony to gain more 3rd party exclusives, simply because the market trends show Sony will sell more games.

As for your claims of Microsoft having more bigger games this year simply isn't true, as I pointed out Sony has 10 big AAA exclusive titles coming in 2015,  Microsoft only has 3, that's a fact. The market of new buyers at large will be much more interested in a complete library with a more varied array of content over a few games that they may consider worthwhile. What you're also forgetting here is that PS4 also has the big 3rd party titles coming this year, so it's not like new gamers to 8th gen will only have the exclusives, but rather they have a bigger library of exclusives (16 on PS4 vs 3 on XB1 this year, plus the other exclusives from the past) and a huge selection of 3rd party games too.

This basically brings us to the crux of the matter as far as your thread's claim goes. Sony has more exclusives, the only really big exclusive game coming to XBox One this year is Halo 5, Forza has never been a huge seller and Quantum Break is an unproven new IP, there's little reason to believe that it will be a huge seller, even Alan Wake wasn't massive on 360. As an Xbox Fan obviously you're going to be stoked for these games and the other Xbox exclusives (by which mean games not coming to Playstation or another console, but which can come to PC), but people that are yet to buy an 8th gen console obviously haven't been interested enough to buy one yet and they'll be looking for more than just a few reasons to get a new system.

Playstation 4 offers a lot more this year. Wii U has more exclusives coming than XB1, but it lacks the multiplats, but still exclusive library vs exclusive library for 2015 Wii U has a much bigger library of content.

It could be argued that maybe Wii U could do with more exclusives to make up for the lack of 3rd party content, but it's library for 2015 is already pretty packed with games only available on Wii U.

When it comes down to it the Xbox One only has 3 outright exclusives this year, any of it's other games are either cross gen or, kept off of Playstation, Nintendo machines or they're multiplats, PS4 has 16 exclusives and Wii U has around 10, with multiplats and cross gen being present too too increase the libraries of games overall, Sony and Nintendo don't need to go crazy at E3, not if they don't want to, really it's Microsoft that needs to, because they have the weakest line-up, 3 exclusives vs what the others have is small.

As platforms PS4 and Wii U have a big breadth of content exclusive to them this year, that holds more weight than one big exclusive and 2 smaller ones.

What you need to understand is that Sony and Nintendo do their own thing, they reveal games when they're ready. Microsoft's library of exclusives is very much lacking in variety and volume this year, Sony could do with an FPS and a racer, but they have a wide range of other games, the kind of content that has been selling PS4 since the start and will continue to do so. Wii U has it's niche, but a very decent library of exclusives overall.

If Multiplats weren't a thing then Xbox One would be seriously lacking, that can't be said of Wii U and PS4, especially not this year.

Indies are actually some of the best games of the generation so far, I mean look at Ori and Resogun, along with plenty of others they're clearly carving out the market and defining this generation like none before it. PS4 is an indie powerhouse and the sheer number of those games really can only strengthen the system's dominance on the market. AAA aren't the big deciding factor like they once were. Indie usually means innovation, interesting and generally made for the fun of playing games.

You're not giving solid reasoning as to why your claims should be taken seriously, PS4 and Wii U have big libraries of exclusives coming this year, the Xbox One doesn't, it actually pails in comparison to those two platforms, the only thing that makes XB1 dominant over Wii U is that it has 3rd party games, that can't be said of PS4.

Both Sony & Nintendo will no doubt bring it at E3, same goes for Microsoft, but really it's Microsoft that needs to do so more than anyone else.

This is starting to look like a "globally in the US" thread.
