Forums - Gaming - Sony and Nintendo need to announce something big at E3

For those debating who won last gen, just my 2cents.

If I go to london and walk along the 100m sprint line, does that mean I get husain bolts medal?

Or if a go to a marathon that just passed and walk along the track and it takes me a whole day to pas by 1km what the athletes did in like 2hrs, did I ran better than them and deserve the price?

Even at 100m the ps2 still dominated the gen and the wii also dominated the gen even in the US cuz the wii was long finished by the time the 360 caught up in the US.

Yeah, but it sucks that one individual opinion sways E3. I've seen Nintendo win E3 before and those tend to be Nintendo's best years for gamers. Sony has the sales, but as far as games are concerned I cannot say whether I believe they deserve it even as a PS4 and Xbox One owner. I can definitely see that better days are coming as I know Sony are late bloomers. That whole "Greatness Awaits" thing is so true with them, because we're always left waiting. Microsoft always bursts out the gate with third party exclusives. Look at the Xbox, 360 and now the One. Microsoft is investing in new IP's but the new ones I hope survive this war and give birth to sequels are Quantum Break and Scalebound. I believe with all of my heart that Gears 4 will have a CG trailer at the next E3 so a lot is riding on what happens here. E3 can affect the holiday expectations of sales within certain brands. Fourth quarter matters a lot though and thats where Microsoft tends to win. I fear less for Microsoft on fourth quarter. I am playing my Xbox One right now much more than my PS4. Hands down MS has come to the show ready to fight. The question is will Sony live up to their great name and show some fight? Right now they are missing punches while Microsoft is throwing all of the landing blows. Nintendo is just fighting to get noticed.

What blows have microsoft landed on the PS4? Did i miss something?

I am talking abou the principle of the matter. Just because you're winning it doesnt mean you should sit on your ass. Look at how Sony turned the tables on Microsoft. They were behind by like eight million consoles and year after year they kept cutting down the gap. Anything can happen. When you own both consoles you tend to notice the difference between your time on both.

I agree with you 100%. I am thankful everyday that Microsoft pushed a anticonsumer product and forced Sony to back away from the same tactics.

For me its exciting to see E3 beceause we know the PS4 has alot of developers working on projects that we only hear rumors about. AS far as Microsoft, the wash and repeat stradegy works well for them. they also have a tendancy to tell you all the games being worked on just to get you hyped even though they are probably years away and also leaving no surprises.

And also for MS saying exclusive on xbox just to come out later for PC and sometimes on PS.

Nah, Sony dropped the ball last year. That "Powers" segment was downright painful, and then they had the weakest holiday lineup of anyone, and Microsoft showed more of Halo than they did of Uncharted.

It was Sony's first full-on E3 loss since 2004.

E3 2006 likes to have a word with you.

Virtue of new hardware edges out Microsoft by default.

Yoshida from sony told the media numerous times after the ps4 launch that there would be no drm in the ps4. They had never thought about it. They had asked sony before microsoft even revealed the one because the dev kit details brought up rumors that the one had drm.

Sony embarrassed microsoft at e3 because they never had plans for it and wanted to teach ms a lesson in how to treat console consumers. Jack tretton said they had nothing against the used market and did not want to step in the way of it because thats what th consumers wanted. You can look all of this up. The rumor was ea dropped drm on their games because microsoft made a deal with them to use azure to put a paywall on used games. This wouldve turned people off from used games. That was the rumor and sony decided not to side with ea but rather to stand between consumers and ea without taking Sides.

Nintendo dominated that E3.

PS went from domination to losing big time with the PS3. It's the most cringe worthy E3 conference ever done tbh.

Right, but it was still new hardware and there was still plenty to get excited about if you sidestepped the terrible presentation.

Which isn't to say Microsoft did anything wrong. They were quietly building in the background in 06 and 07, and showed that the 360 had taken the helm of console of choice in 08 and 09. It was after that point that they started to fall apart in terms of E3 presentation, as Nintendo and Sony moved forward (E3 10 for 3DS, E3 11 for Vita, E3 12 for Wii U) Microsoft held on, and then lost head-to-head in 2013 (though came ahead of Nintendo handily).

When we MS ever king of th gaming market?

The only window I can think of them being in a dominant position was during the first 2 or 3 years of the 360s life. But they were still outsold by the Nintendo Wii and were plagued with the RROD. So although they had good sales and had some great games even then it wasn't a clear win.

They had a 2-year E3 dominance streak in 2008-2009, but haven't won a one of them since. Last year they were competitive, but ultimately outshined by Nintendo's gamer outreach. This could be their year, though, as the OP indicates.

Zelda alone makes it near impossible without even considering other announcements.

The thing is, you don't need to do poorly to "lose" E3. Just that somebody has to if you're putting them head-to-head. Nintendo had a lot of cool stuff going on in 2000, but was overshadowed by Dreamcast pulling out the big guns to try and fight off the PS2, and the PS2.

But nintendo already has a lot of big guns for E3 2015 even without counting the surprises. I think we'll see the same result as last year's E3.

It could mean nothing, but apparently God of War 4 has been listed on a UK retailer site, with a December release window this year:

Maybe Sony will have GOW4 at E3, with a release date this year.
