Yeah, but to make their QoL system somewhat interesting to customers I think they would need to launch something that links them. Like Wii Fit.

Will get slaughtered. There are dozens of different fitness apps from actual fitness companies now/programs from actual fitness companies.

Things like the sleep sensors (confirmed) and devices for seniors (to keep them alert) are likely what we're talking about here. Which is fine. The whole point of that endeavor is to expand so that they're not so dependant on gaming revenue, if it was too similar to the games they've already made, then it sorta defeats the point.

QoL is general is a pretty fair tip off that the Fusion platform is coming actually, because they figured to do that they would need a new revenue stream, since they are collapsing the traditional home console + seperate handheld console model that they've used for the last 30 years or so.

Makes sense. I just think that QoL by itself is not going to do good. They need their gaming and health division to coexist and interact with each other so it becomes more than just a "fitness app".

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

your determination is outstanding, anyways... we're not going to play on a new nintendo home console next year, guaranteed.

Definitely not guaranteed. Quite the opposite.

2016 is not too soon. QoL is irrelevant when it comes to the gaming division. It has no impact on when the consoles come out. It's a different product for a different audience. It's like saying that a Spiderman movie can't come out because Sony is launching the PS4 Slim that year.

If they go the Fusion concept route, sure they could do that.

Because in said scenario they don't really need two discreetl libraries for two different systems.

That's like saying Apple can't release a new iPad next year if they release a new iPhone. Obviously they can (and do), partly because they both use the same apps and software ecosystem, so there's never a content issue.

My guess is 2017

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

There won't be a successor to Wii U.

Wii U is Nintendo's last "big box" console.

And honestly the industry has never really supported three successful consoles outside of the last cycle ... and likely won't. People don't want three console choices.

Next-gen you will be able to play Nintendo games on your TV, but it'll just be their handheld chipset (souped up maybe) + handheld library. Wii U is the last "traditional", discreet Nintendo console in a lot of ways IMO.

Enjoy your Wii U while it lasts IMO. It's the last of its kind. To be honest I think the next console hardware cycle will largely be the last traditional one, with Playstation 5 and maybe an Next XBox (XB2?). After that streaming services and things of that nature will take over.

Nintendo already talked several times about their plans for next home and handheld consoles, and they will be again two consoles, but this time they will be "like brothers in a family of systems" with same architecture, probably same OS, cross play/cross buy and heavy home/handheld integration.

Releasing next handheld year after New 3DS and releasing home console later on same year!?

Not a chance, maybe we can see next handheld on Q4 2016 but no way we can see next home console same year, they need more time for preparing new console and games, especially because now they need to have very good launch with big games.

It's not like it hasn't happened before. And it would be a year and a half, not a year. That's almost two years later. Apple releases multiple different peices of hardware each year to constant and massive success. No reason Nintendo can't do something similar. If Nintendo can release a new iteration every single year since the 3DS first came out, they can release it's successor a year later as well.

With a unified platform, they don't need time "preparing a new console and games." The whole purpose of a unified platform is to negate those artificial hangups. It'll effectively be the same as upgrading a PC. Same library, better hardware. They can still somewhat support the Wii U because it'll be BC. Because it's absorbing the Wii U's architecture, the games will just come out as developing for it will be similar enough, just like the GCN to Wii transition, a fact Nintendo themselves has already stated.

Spring/Summer of next year is not almost two year from New 3DS, thats around a year and half, and I cant see them releasing any new hardware in Spring/Summer, every new hardware is releasing in holiday season with a reason.

You cant compare Apple product or any tech product with consoles, gaming consoles are not phones or tablets.

I agree for announced unified platform, but that doesn't mean that they will release next home console earlier than 2017, because they will need time to prepare all that and they need to have very good and strong launch.

I cant see next handheld earlier then 2016. holiday and 2017. for home console.

And this year on E3 we will some new Wii U games for 2016.

November 2017. I don't know how much longer they can sustain the Wii U...

1doesnotsimply

November 2016. 3DS successor will be out earlier that year (yes, one year after N3DS US release), and since the next console will tie in heavily to the handheld, launching it the following holiday makes sense.

If Nintendo's willing to ride out the Wii U for any longer than that, then they need a significant price cut as of May and Splatoon. If they don't do that, you can bet that they're just going to drop this albatross from their neck as soon as they can justify.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

GBA - 2001

GBA SP - 2003

Nintendo DS - 2004

GBA Micro - 2005

Nintendo DS Lite - 2006

Nintendo DSi - 2008 (Japan)

Nintendo DSi - 2009 (West)

Nintendo DSi XL - 2009 (Japan)

Nintendo DSi XL - 2010 (West)

Nintendo 3DS - 2011

Nintendo 3DS XL - 2012

Nintendo 2DS - 2013 (West)

New Nintendo 3DS - 2014 (Japan)

New Nintendo 3DS - 2015 (West)

Uh .... I think people actually don't realize how much portable hardware Nintendo actually has released the past 15 years or so.

Fusion portable in 2016 would actually be very much in line with the above release list. Nintendo DSi XL was the last DS revision, and the 3DS was released roughly 14 months after that. *Fact*, not opinion.

iPhone and iPad are also basically "brother" devices.

2017, I'm positive about that

I also believe the next generation of Nintendo hardware will be some kind of unified platform, but there still won't be one platform to rule them all. There's still going to be a 'home' version and a 'portable' version. Because of this, it would be logical to release both in the same year.

I think they will give WiiU the 'standard' five years, it's not successful enough to warrent a longer lifespan and a shorter one has never happened. I think four years would also be too short for Nintendo to squize every bit of potential out of the WiiU. 3DS is however successful enough to keep around for longer, it doesn't need to be replaced just yet.

I'd say both Nintendo's 9th Gen entries will release in 2017.
