I also believe the next generation of Nintendo hardware will be some kind of unified platform, but there still won't be one platform to rule them all. There's still going to be a 'home' version and a 'portable' version. Because of this, it would be logical to release both in the same year.
I think they will give WiiU the 'standard' five years, it's not successful enough to warrent a longer lifespan and a shorter one has never happened. I think four years would also be too short for Nintendo to squize every bit of potential out of the WiiU. 3DS is however successful enough to keep around for longer, it doesn't need to be replaced just yet.
I'd say both Nintendo's 9th Gen entries will release in 2017.
