Forums - Gaming - When do you think the Wii U's successor will release?

What year do you think Wii U's successor will launch?

2017 81 52.26%

2018 62 40.00%

2019+ 12 7.74%

Total:155

Considering that THIS should be the year the Wii U should sell, if at all, Nintendo would push it back to 2018. I think if there really proves to be a reason to release a new console (usually when the current product has reached the end of its product life cycle), Nintendo would make the decision to get back on its feet.

Thing is, whatever console we get, Nintendo has to understand its mistakes with the 3DS and WiiU - and that is the software drought that both systems experienced very early on - not to mention the silly WiiU brand name as it sounds attached to the Wii, but offers a whole different system experience.

I'm counting on Nintendo marketing on this one. Yet I feel let down already.

I am thinking other thing. The industry isnt big enough to support three big players anymore in the home console arena. Next gen will be really interesting.

I think it all depends on where the system is at after this holiday, if the wiiu is not over 14 million by years end. I think they will show off some things for the new system at e3 next year , with a release holiday 2017. I think a launch in 2018 would be bad for them, unless they have a system on par or close to the next playstation and xbox systems and of course launch with super mario galaxy 3 or sequel to mario 64.

I just want to see what everyone thinks if there is a consensus for the year.Anyone who says 2016 knows thats not possible.2017 at the earliest (5 years).I think 2018 cause they have to launch as close to Sony and Microsofts next consoles.Which would be 2019 at the earliest.

I dont think they have to launch close to Sony and Microsoft next consoles, I said 2017. probably, probably around 2 years before Sony and Microsoft consoles.

Whattttt??? 4 years and the HH isnt even out yet (or will they release it in the same year)

I think they'll release it the same year.

Accepting the wii was mostly an anomoly, the industry hasn't  changed that much, just the dominance of specific players.

There is room for Nintendo to steal more of the 200m pie, just as Microsoft did. If Microsoft and Nintendo didn't mess up, we'd be looking at 3 consoles each on track to sell 50-80m+

Instead we have one destined to do 120m, the other two will do less then 70m combined.

Same with PS2 era; 1 console > 160m, the other two =45m

That would be a pretty bad decision, even if its Nintendo Fusion. I think the Next Nintendo HH wont release intill Spring 2017, but the earliest i expect it would be in a year from now, but even thats kinda early.

We'll see soon enough

I'd say that was also a mistake they shouldn't repeat, showing off your console 16months in advance isn't something I think works in this day and age. Show it off within 12months of launch and have actual games to show, not just tech demos and a controller. Keep the hype high like sony and MS did. Both big reveals with launch window games on show followed by swift launches less then 12months later.

I think it'll be a good desision specifically because it's part of a unified platform. I see the handheld releasing Spring/Summer of next year and being announced at E3 this year, with the console releasing in the Winter and being announced at or around E3 next year.

2017 seems about right, if everything maintains as it is.

Might be pushed back for later if Nintendo scores with their QoL products or might be shorter if the 3DS' successor really is supposed to be a "hybrid" system capable of playing console and handheld games.
