Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft admits 'we've lost our way' on PC games

I feel this is probably be he last gen for the Xbox devices as dedicated gaming consoles. We may see Xbox PCs and the like. Question now is how they will fare with Valve and Steam. I have my doubts that they can shift their console model with payed online and such to PC. And I doubt that Xbox fans will just follow them. Either way, this is interesting. But I feel their push into PC gaming might be too little too late.

"Lost their way"? Microsoft never knew the way to begin with. Can't lose what you never really had.

Sounds like the artcle is saying they want a service like Steam to sell games on Windows 10.  If that's it they're gonna get Steamrolled ^.^, even if it has their first party games people are only gonna buy those on their service and all third party games on Steam.  PC gamers are not tied down to one service.  And if it does have their first party games their consoles gonna suffer.  This is a no win situation.

Microsoft picked the wrong battle to begin with. Lack of forthsight led them into a battle with Sony. They've been beaten there and now they realise they wasted so many years and so much money fighting the wrong guy. I bet Valve can't believe their luck.

It's like in the Hobbit where the elves and the dwarves fight eachother while the real enemy the orcs surround them.

I agree they have lost their way but they can certainly bring it back! Giving windows 10 for free and getting dx12 compatible with so many existing cards are the first steps to do so but they need to being games like MCC to PC to show their full commitment. Yes, they are bringing fable but thats meh at best to me since its a spinoff. I really hope they will bring MCC to PC when Halo 5 comes out for x1 if they really want to show their commitment.

Also, bring back the Age of series

Lets not go to far with exclusives. That puts people AWAY from Xbox, so that's not going to happen...

Don't you mean the elves and dwarves?

OT: I'm getting the vibe that MS is gradually moving away from the console business and focusing more on PC gaming. Anyways, glad to see MS is putting more support into PC gaming.

They cannot win over the PC community without devaluing the Xbox. Its their choice when they decided to work for or against two rivaling platforms.

If it means I can eventually get Killer Instinct on PC, I'm all for that change.

Hence why I said when Halo 5 comes out... If Halo's main draw is its online and when Halo 5 comes out, most of the community moves on, then there is no reason for MS to not port MCC to PC... Cause a) MCC sales will drop on x1 b) MCC will be significantly less active and c) Most people will be playing Halo 5 instead so if they port it to windows so they will not only get a sales increase on MCC, but it will also show some good faith to PC gamers and if they do it right, it might be a reason to visit Windows Store for once
