I want a new gen rather soon, but that's only because I wanna see what Nintendo does next time around - and that means that I'd like to see MS and Sony rolling out new HW as well, or else Nintendo's next effort would fail hard ^^

Nope, I want this generation to be as long as the last one! Don't want to buy a console every few years!
Just because Wii U is doing bad, some people want a new generation.

I think this generation will be very short, the current consoles cant hold as long as the last generation, the price alone is an indicator and sony is actually making 20$ profit on each system compare that to 900$ loses for backwards compatible ps3 at launch.
X86 architecture will also be easy to implement and they probably will be backwards compatible.

Wii U came 2012. The next Nintendo console should come 2017 and not early, but I think Nintendo will unfortunately launch the new Nintendo console 2016. :/

I don't really believe Nintendo is making a next-gen console in the traditional sense. Their next "console" will just be a way to play their handheld games on the TV and use the same chip components (just maybe with more CPU/GPU cores so that the games can run at full 1080P suitable for big screen TV play).

So they're kinda out in a traditional sense.

I think MS is going to be kinda the wild card. If the XBox One only sells say 35 million ... does MS stay in the fight? Do they maybe shift to trying to push for a Netflix style game streaming service instead? With net neutrality laws shifting in the US that could pave the way for Google Fiber and other higher speed internet by 2020 or so.

Sony obviously, probably would like this cycle to last as long as possible.

I hope they don't die. I have a PC that can handle most games, i just can't stand gaming on a pc. I love my consoles way too much.

This is not the first time i see something like this thread in the 8th gen, i wonder what is causing this gen to feel so underwhelming.

Maybe it was because last gen lasted so long and we got used to dozens of games every week. Now that i think about, 7th gen was awesome, we had 3 consoles and 2 handhelds at full steam.

I think the gen needs to last more than 5 or 6 years. Developers need more time to master the hardwares and start a strong output of software.
