I don't care about resolution and framerate, but if the PS4 would get BC I'd instantly buy it.

I'm not sure what purpose of buying a new console just for the extra 20-30 frames per second would be, since it would just feel outdated again once 4K becomes the standard. Might as well build a PC if you have to have 60 FPS right now. |
Proper 4K (<1000€, 4k60) will not come to PCs before 2017. Proper 4k for consoles will not come before 2019.
I can wait for 4k but no 1080p in this day and age is just pitiful.

I also want good games. But I want them to run on hardware they deserve.

The performance of all "8th gen" is a joke. They can't achieve 60fps at 1080p with decent graphics which is a joke as the PC is about to crack 4k at 60 fps for gods sake.

Somehow I doubt even 9th gen consoles will be able to do 4k with ease. At best, it'll be like 1080p on 8th gen systems, with some games achieving it, and others not.
No, i liked how long last gen was... i got a lot of value out of my console, buying a console for just 4 years of use is not what i want, at least PS consoles get supported even after the gen ends, but its only just by japanese third parties not Sonys world wide studios, so no...
i want this gen to last at least 6 years which is the perfect duration for me, its 2 more years than a short gen of 4 and 2 less years than the longest gen we ever had which was the last one.

The only gamers that I can think of that want the next gen happening sooner is nintendo fans.

I want it to be a long gen....
Also I would tell you to buy a PC, but I know you already have one...

To cut it short OP, your not the only one on that boat judging by this thread ...
I'm very much against the idea of transitioning to next gen early at this point since many here don't really know the repercussions ...
Consoles are MEANT to depend on their software support to sustain their life, NOT become a product line to have yearly hardware refreshes ...
Doing the any of the things you mentioned would mean devaluing the product line and that can have some serious ramifications when it comes to the AAA gaming market since that could potentially mean a gaming crash like before ...
Introducing a new platforms in a short time frame in this day and age is a waste because price/performance scaling been significantly stalled ...
If it means anything to those sharing this sort of sentiment I want them to rethink, reevaluate, and reconsider their initial stance because these types of direction that gamer's on here vouch for is extremely poisonous to the gaming industry in general ...
The long and short of this is making this gen smaller is like letting a genie out of the bottle ...
I'm all for a longer life span since it means getting more value out of the platforms, developers getting a longer dev cycle along with reduced cost overtime, seeing EUV take off in the future so that there may be bigger gains in price/performance, and more chances for new IPs. I can only see a win on this route since there's nothing but benefits to be had with it ...
