Xenoblade X will be out soon enough. Patience.

Am I the only one hoping that console gaming will just die at this point?
I LOVE ICELAND!

Yes, I wish it would evolve, but not die. I still have a lot of fun playing games.

I'm having fun playing games too. But they're not on consoles.
I LOVE ICELAND!

I don't hope for the generation to be shorter, I can be ok with the actual hardware for many years.
Still I think this generation will likely be shorter than the previous one due to multiple factors:
-The market population is not gorwing while alternative products (tablet and PC) are becoming more competitive.
-All new consoles are relatively weak in terms of power, this mean they will become outdated in a shorter time.
-Neither Sony or Microsoft have sustained great losses to launch their products, this means there will be less incentives to extend this generation lifetime.
-Due to the lack of "indecision" between formats (PS vs XB), the systems (PS in particulary) are selling faster, this means market saturation will be reached more quickly.
For me these machines are fine when it comes to hardware.
The only thing i would like to see in all games is 1080p/30fps for single player mode with the maximum graphics settings possible pushing the machine's hardware and 720p or whatever is needed to reach 60fps in multiplayer, even downgrade on some settings if resolution is not enough (many games like Killzone and COD did already).

I think you might want to explore building a PC... I too enjoy the convenience of having a console, but this last round of consoles aren't as buff as they should be.
Feel free to check out my stream on twitch

I could do with new HW every 2-3 years, but then the games would just get graphics improvements like on PC, that would be fine.

I already have a decent PC for the games provided on that platform and I am looking for upgrades in the coming weeks but I'll say this gen has disappointed me, mainly because it was touted and marketed as being "next gen 1080p 60fps" and then we see one platform going 900p 60fps with the other at 1080p 30fps, sometimes 60 and sometimes less in terms of res but both don't seem to be keeping full on 1080 60 100% of the time, Nintendo are still doing their own thing but this gen they are basically on their own which both annoys me and makes me sad because I've always viewed Nintendo as the original home console guys that make fun games that aren't all nitty gritty.
I would like the gen to end but not this year or next, at least on the enxt 3-4 years from now, I'd hope at least by then that MS would create more studios of it;s own instead of killing them off or buying some, actually invest in more powerful hardware, Sony I wish they'd go full on with their enxt hardware and not skimp out either (if it;s another selling at a loss, go home or go big is becoming more true as years go by).
Lastly I;d love a new gen start to not revolve around watching one company trip while the other laughs and uses that trip of his opponent to make his offering look like a gift from god, one that's not rocking full on as advertised and has a lot of down time, security issues and no BC, in fact both lack BC a lot and you're having to buy them all over again or buy into another service, Nintendo are the only guys in this game rocking a lot of BC which is why they mostly get my love and money, they also didn't laugh and pull the "it plays games" crap or throw 1080 60 adverts.
Would be nice if the next generation started at prices of maybe £350-400 right off the bat, no gimmicks (on any of the 3), no bundled games that only a very select party would buy, just the console and it's ability to do what it can to the note, I'd love them to at least do 2k 60fps, I can't see next gen doing 4k though even with PC getting to that point currently.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
