...what? Kratos is one of the least likable characters in gaming, who turned into a caricature of himself after the first game. I'd say he's pretty much as far from lovable as you can get.

Doesn't seem like it will have a sales impact: the sales for TO are strong, and it's metacritic score is continually rising.

Have you played Chains of Olympus or Ghost of Sparta? He goes insane but justifiably so (like seriously he gets mentally unstable)

Ryse is a great point. Just goes to show the difference in expectations and how different fanbases react differently. I dont remember any supposed conspiracy being thrown around about Ryse's scores, or any talk about how the game was just too cinematic for reviewers. Hell, imho Ryse has a story a thousand times better than The Order, gameplay that is much more rewarding, AND it has much, much higher replay value thanks to the arena mode offline and online. And im still ok with it only scoring a 6. I would give it somewhere between 7 and 8 or so, but i understand some did not like the combat. And then some have audacity to say there was no hype for The Order lol |
Neither had much hype. The Order and Ryse were blasted pre-release which negates the positive stuff (the stuff that builds hype). If there's more negative than postitive like there was for both of those then they're not hyped relatively speaking.
I don't think so. Gaming journalists were criticizing the Order a long time before it even came out.

The Order had more hype than Ryse ever did. The problem is the more Sony showed the less interested vocal fans became.
People were ripping Ryse apart the first time gameplay was shown because of the QTEs. The Order however is in a more popular genre and people thought it was going to rival Gears of War. The Order was a highly anticipated game at one point, Ryse was just something to play.
Saying The Order wasn't hyped is rewriting history. It didn't reach Destiny of CoD levels of hype, but it was still hyped.

Same goes for Wolfenstein: The New Order. Yet the final product was praised.

you'd be 100% wrong there. the more gameplay was shown the more the game excited people.

Just as much as Ryse. The initial trailer had lots of hype but closer to launch not so much. Probably by launch people anticipated Ryse more simply because the amount of negative articles was less for it. People appreciated it for what it was unlike the Order. The Order and Ryse lived up to their respective hype levels it was clear each was going to appeal to only a certain type of person.
