Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why Do People Say WiiU and Vita Are Dead? Both Are Doing Extremely Well For What They Are.

They're not dead.

Wii U still has Nintendo's support, which is what matters with their consoles.

Vita is on life support though, because Sony doesn't want to acknowledge it's existence from time to time. So, even if niche Japanese games are being released for the system in Japan, and Indies are supporting it... It's difficult to do much more than that if the creators themselves are eager for people to forget about it.... Virtual Boy?

I believe none of them are dead, but the Vita is dying. Wii U still has some wild cards to play i believe.

extremely well? lol. just look at their first projections and look at their sales now. WiiU was projected to be at 5 million sales by end of march 2013, its 2015 now and its at 9.2m. vita is even worse, it was projected it would sell 16 million in its first year... lol.... its at 10m now

Whaaat? They wanted to ship 10M in March 2013, they reached this probably December 2014, 1 and a half year later. Not that bad imo.

their initial projection was 16 million in their first FY year.

Of course they are not dead but they are also not doing extremly well how you are saying! Considering the fact that Wii and PSP were selling-beasts makes the Wii U and Vita looking very bad. We should hope that they will have a long life, so that they reach 20M and don't look like the ultimate catastrophe which they sadly are.

They're not "dead". But I consider Vita dying and Wii U barely surviving. It's like its heart keeps stopping and doctors are using defibrillators on it occasionally. They're both complete and utter failures though.

Nope 10M.

You mean that add on for the Wii and that Sony TV thing? How come they aren't doing well?

They're MASSIVE failures given the success of their predecessors.

Wii U was poorly marketed and the tablet control was a terrible idea. They should have stuck with the Wiimote. The Wii U should have simply been the Wii HD.

There was little Sony could do to prevent Vita from failing. Vita sales could have been better if it had more notable games but it was going to fail regardless. People are content with mediocre phone/tablet games. The 3DS is doing much better but still not doing DS numbers.

For the record, I'm actually collecting Vita games and I already have a pretty large collection of PSP games. I'm a fan of Sony portables but its clear the masses don't care for it.

In the Vita's case, it doesn't help perception when it's direct competition outsells it by nearly 400,000 units in a single week. Yes, the New 3DS released, but that's just more proof that Nintendo supports its handheld. Sony has not done much to support Vita in the eyes of the consumer. When the manufacturer of the hardware doesn't seem to be supporting its own device, the consumer generally considers that device to be "dead" (bad investment).
