Forums - Politics Discussion - Thinking about converting to Islam

One thing you should know, Christian God is not the same as Allah. Allah is a crescent moon god. Just like Thor and Zeus and Ra are not the same as Christian God.

That would be very sad. Why do you say that?

Because, individually and collectively, people need to believe in something greater than themselves. Islam seems like a very logical replacement for a moribund and spineless Christianity and a ruinous political progressivism that fosters nothing but alienation and grievance.

At the risk of expressing ban-worthy prejudice, a predominantly Islamic world sounds like a dangerous outcome for pretty much anyone who's not a heterosexual Muslim male. Among other things, the marriage of underage girls to adult men and the execution of rape victims are still widespread within many Islamic nations.

Obviously, this does not apply to all muslims or muslim communities, but its still concerning.

At least now, in Mekkan they're discussing how to properly modernise the Islam. But this person here... you don't convert to islam for these reasons. I don't think the Islam has any use for Far-Right Neo-Conservatives.

1. What are the most prevalent family values of Islam? More specifically, is polygamy and polyamory proscribed? I believe in the insitution of one man and one woman: monogamy.

2. Why do some muslims refuse to shake hands? I like this practice, I think our tradition of shaking hands is not hygenic.

1- Men are allowed to mary 4 women. However, upon marriage there has to be "marriage contract" . Women can make a term for the husband not to mary other women, and if they agree, the husband wouldn't be able to mary other women unless he divorce his first wife. Women have the right to add any terms to the contract.

2- We do shake hands.

Don't follow every little thing if you don't believe it is right. Free thinking is one core pillar of the philosophy in the Quran. Most muslims say the songs are forbidden, but I'm not convinced. I did some historical research on the subject and turned out that there not even a single evidence that the songs in general are forbidden. Only under some conditions.

Disliking feminism doesn't necessarily mean that someone doesn't like the idea of women having a better standing in society. I, for one don't care for modern feminism. haha.

2 different things. "adhor feminism" is what he said. He didn't say "the type of feminism where women accuse men of mysogynistic for just being men."

Well, feminism has become more or less subjective. So I just give anyone who says or uses it the benefit of doubt. It usually requires them to explain what they mean by it to understand them. I don't really know what he meant by it.

Full Disclosure I am an Atheist,

But I do have to ask are there any actual philosophical reasons why you wish to abandon Christianity for Islam? Attitudes of members doesn't decide what’s correct. If everyone on this earth who believed the earth was round was an ignorant douche-bag it wouldn't mean they were wrong about their belief, it would just mean you separate yourself from that mindset.

No, but I abhor feminism and communism. I see those ideologies as an enemy. I identify more with the right. I'm not a big fan of homosexuality either. I don't want them persecuted or harmed but I don't want their "pride" in my face either.

I have very strong normative family values. I can't stand polyamory. Dislike the abuse of divorce too.

haha, but you do know that both christianity and islam are deeply socialist ideologies, right?

Note: I do not condone of the senseless violence and barbarism of IS.

I am an educated man in his upper twenties who is born Christian and I identify with Christianity culturally. I believe in family values, compassion, and monogamy. I was born in EU and lived in the US for quite a long time. I've recently moved back to EU and I just don't identify with the progressive liberal values inherent in society here. Everyone is a feminist and a Marxist. I felt like there were strong Christian values in the US but with Obama, I felt like the US is becoming more and more atheistic and leftist.

Now on to my tirade. I feel as though Christianity has fallen in the West. The last bastions of Christianity are slowly but surely being usurped by progressive liberals. These so called "democratic" countries are rife with decadence and deviance as evidenced in the outgrowth of gay rights and other movements espoused by the left. Hitler warned that these so called democratic states were in a state of moral decadence and would fall to the disciplined hordes of Asia. I feel as though the weakening of Europe is a result of Hitler losing the war. In post war EU there was an insurgence of radical leftist groups such as the Rotte Armee Fraktion which left an indelible impression on EU society.

Now the more I think about Islam, the more I feel drawn to its values (because it's oriented towards the right).  I have some questions though.

How about getting your values from what you think is reasonable and not a medieval mythology.

Then more than to Islam you should convert to Catholicism. Islam allows polygamy (which is in a sense a form of polyamory), divorce and even abortion before 4 complete months. Catholicism forbids all of them.

feminism in our current era doesn't really have much of a purpose though since women and men are equal in terms of rights

its now devolving into attacking men for opening their legs while seated in public and amusingly oppressing women in various ways one example being the notion that a woman with a curvy figure can only be found attractive by horny teenage boys

edit: i should specify that i mean feminism in western regions where amusingly again its by far the most prevalent rather than less modern regions where it would actually serve a purpose

Yeah it's bad times to be biblical patriarch, I mean the machine of violence and oppression which every state inherently is moulting from its own shell of enforced and religiously consecrated moral shackles, since it no longer needs them when it can more effectively crush individual with all new instruments that google, facebook and upcoming internet of things offer. But going islam is strange choice, it's just more failed version of christianity which got stuck in 14 century. Maybe try converting to orthodoxy first before jumping boats.
It seems that pissing of "liberals" with a set of beliefs is more important to you than the beliefs themselves.
