Then why are games like Paper Mario TTYD, Pikmin 1 & 2, Metroid Prime, Perfect Dark, Super Mario 64, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword still expensive today?

Because nintendo are trying to maximise profits and they know the lack of 3rd party means that their fanbase are likely to buy their games.

Nintendo fans are likely to buy nintendo games.... is basically what you've said. The MAIN reason nintendo games price do not drop is because the majority are everygreen titles. They sell and sell and sell and sell, Up to last year brawl was in the top 50 in Japanese charts. MK7 and MKwii are still selling well to this day even though MK8 is out. A price drop is done to improve sales but if the sales are already good and are continuing like this then why should we drop them? Did you know that dropping the price of a game too early hurts the industry on a whole? A lot of us are now thinking "I'll get that game when its dirt cheap even though I want it now" which lowers the amount of profit the developer makes. What nintendo does is not just maximising profit but giving their games a long term Value, something that others seem to be forgetting about.

Yet you could buy MPT for €10 on the eshop not so long ago. ;)

The second hand market for Nintendo games is smaller than third party games, so the prices remain higher. Nintendo games have more lasting value.

then why not compare to all the games published by Sony for the vita and ps4 thus far this year? orwhatever publisher you chose

Superstardust ultra, compares to the zelda game remake for remake

fat princess: pieces of cake, compares to the pokemon game, both ports of mobile games that have microtransactions

The Order: 1886, and Kirby

3 games sony 3 games Nintendo.

and while it's hard to tell from this list what games are published by sony vs not, there are more coming over the next few months than you seem to think.

You raise a fair point. I was only meaning to enforce that Nintendo releasing so much content is a good thing, regardless if some titles are small or not. I didn't intend on this being a pissing contest.

You consider Xenoblade to be "inhouse" ... I consider it 2nd party, otherwise I agree with the rest of the post.

Xenoblade is in-house because it's made by Monolith, who is owned by Nintendo and develops games exclusively for them. They were an independent studio, but because they were purchased, they are now 1st party.

Insomniac is an example of a 2nd party.

When did that happen, I thought they got bought by Warner Brothers 10 years or so ago. Ahh ok you mean Monolith Soft.  My bad I never looked too closely at who was making the game.

Naturally they are evergreen titles.  Generally nintendo games are above average and the serious lack of competition from 3rd parties ensures not much competition.

Lack of 3rd parties has nothing to do with it. Even back in the NES/SNES era when Nintendo had amazing 3rd party support, Nintendo published titles still had great legs and we're the best selling titles on Nintendo platforms.

Indeed, all these games coming out is a very good thing and the variety of types is also a very good thing.

I see what you did there.

Of course! In the end, we, as gamers, win since we're getting all these amazing games. 2015 is shaping up to be a year to remember, for everyone.

Both points are right.  The lack of competition obviously gives gamers little quality alternatives and the other point is that nintendo have a hardcore that's been gaming with them for generations and their loyalty to nintendo made games is strong
