Forums - Gaming - This generation has sucked so far

i am enjoying it a lot actually, it also does help that i dont get excited over western AAA games like Destiny and Watchdogs anymore, the only bad point about this generation for me was getting BF4 as a launch tittle which had a lot of problems, aside from that ive had a BLAST with the following games:

Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor: The nemesis system (only possible on Next Gen) did add a lot to the game, and did create some personal storys with enemy NPCs, it was really fun

Outlast: this game was better than i expected, and succeded in scaring me through the whole game.

The Last of Us Remastered: i know its a remaster game, BUT i never played TLOU on PS3 because i wanted the GOTY edition with all the DLC and TLOU remastered was that with improved visuals and FPS, and since the game was just a year old, the gameplay mechanics and graphics were still pretty fresh, in fact they are still fresh since i havent seen a game evovle the TPS or Survival Horror genre.

Infamous Second Son: i am finally playing this game and thankfully after a not so amazing initial impression its getting better and better, and i am actually enjoying it a lot now.

Guilty Gear XRD: AKA the one AMAZING Playstation exclusive no one talks about, this game is beyond great, i think i have NEVER had this much FUN with a fighting game in my life, the character designs were already great in the past games, but they have been improved on this one, the graphics were also incredibly improved, now its not sprites that they are using but rather a 3D model (on the Unreal Engine) that is textured with really HIGH QUAILITY anime 2D like sprite visuals, in other words the game looks 2D despite being 3D, which helps with the animations and the now 360 degree angles that the camera can offer, that being said the gameplay also shines really bright, because its a game that is easy to learn but hard to master, in other words its simple enough so those who arent hughe figting game fans can enjoy, but with enough deep gameplay mechanics that the fighting game community can also enjoy... and oh my god is this game FUN, i love it, its my favorite Playstation Exclusive of 2014 by a MILE.

Also i really like the new characters they added, specially Ramlethal Valentine.

that being said this year is going to be amazing, probably the best year of gaming in my life, because a lot of my favorite games of all time have sequels or new incarnations this year, like:

Bloodborne (im a hughe Demons Souls fan, so this is obvious)

Metal Gear Solid V (aka the reason why i bought a PS2, PS3, im a hughe fan of this game as well)

Uncharted 4 (i dont think i even need to explain this one...)

Disgaea 5 (another series that i like a lot)

Persona 5 (did you saw that trailer?)

Hyperdimension Neptunia VII (i became a fan of this game last year, and i really like the concept and the characters)

FFXV (belive it or not i have hope it will come out this year... XD)

and then there is a TON of other games coming out this year that are PS4/Vita exclusives like God Eater 2 Rage Burst, Toukiden etc... plus other PS3 exclusive that im excited about like Under Night, Tales of Zestiria, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and Yakuza 5 etc...

my JOY with gaming is not tied with "NEXT GEN" because thankfully the PS3 is still arround and kicking ass, with some really good japanese exclusives.

Speak for yourself.

I've had an absolute blast with games like Alien Isolation, Sunset Overdrive, Far Cry 4, Mastaer Chief Collection, Dragon Age, Forza Horizon 2, Shadow of Mordor and loads more.

In fact, this is probably the best 1st year of gaming for a new console in the history of gaming for me.

So many great games in the first 12 months of a new console is almost unheard of.

As always, we leave a generation on a high, remembering all the great memories we had with many titles. Then bam, new gen... it feels like a baron wasteland. It's like this at the beginning of every generation, it never really gets good until 2-3 years into the cycle. I regret getting the PS4 early, I've only played the Last of Us remastered on it, and now since I am debating whether or not to get the Order, I probably won't play a game on it until Uncharted 4. I know the games will be there eventually though, next gen I need to try and suppress my urges to jump in on a console in it's first year or two.

totally agree

I'm quite enjoying this gen. My PS4 has been in full use almost daily. Resogun, TLOU:R, AC4, NBA2k14-15, Madden, Far Cry 4 (Played 3 on PC), Don't Starve (playing DS Together on PC though), SSD Ultra, Dead Nation, Dying Light, Dragon Age Inquisition, Costume Quest 2, Sing Star, RE Remake, Infamous SS/Last Light, GTA V, Sound Shapes, Steam World Dig, BF4, CoD, All the Tell Tale games except GoT, Jack Box Party Set, Dust: AET, Spelunky, Outlast....

Just to name a few.

I guess it's all how you look at it.

Nintendos offerings have been overall strong, but I am not as excited for video games as I used to be. I think part of it is just growing up and also part seeing the nickel and diming so many companies are doing...

I have to agree.

Most games I enjoyed are cross gen.

Plenty of big ips still to come Zelda, tomb raider, halo, hitman, elder scrolls, gears of war, etc but no new ips that have hit the mark, I think too many publishers cashing in with their up scaled games rather than publishing new games, but its gamers fault for buying hd remakes (myself included). But with till they come out with the big guns like mass effect 4 but overall it is a slow start to this gen.

old skool

I completely agree with you. Honestly, I'd go as far as to say that everything you said is objectively true, but you won't get hardcore fans to agree with you, or they'll agree with everything except for what was said about their console of preference.

I'll say that Super Mario 3D World is one of my most favorite games of all-time, but that doesn't excuse the lack of a legitimate 3D Mario game on Wii U.

i disagree. i think this generation has been the best so far.
