Forums - Gaming - The Order: 1886 Attracts “Uncanny Haterade” Says Director

There's been a lot of buzz over this game, huh, and on the forums, more bad than good. Personally, I'm not interested in the game, but I can't wait for this game to be released just so that maybe the bad buzz can die down we can move on to something else, jeez. If the game is good, then I hope it succeeds. Bogging down a game so much close to release just seems like a disservice to the dev team who spent so much time on it.

(though quickly taking down LP's of their game before release may have been a good idea..)

So we've established that any game:

Under 6 hours
Can be finished in 5 hours if you skip stuff
Has lots of QTEs
Has Borders
Is Story driven
Has lots of cut scenes totaling almost half of the length of the game
Is linear in design
Somehow still costs $60 at launch

Must be constantly critiqued on everything until launch.

Noted.

I fixed some of that for you, and added another. You really hit the nail on the head in terms of the problems with The Order. You might be able to try really hard and find 2-3 games that fit this entire list, maybe. But you won't find many at all. Hell, I cannot think of a single one. And that's why The Order gets so much hate. It's not just "omg its so short!" it's that it's so short, it's extremely linear, its loaded with so many cut scenes that almost half the time you're "playing" you're actually just watching, an enormous part of the game is tied to QTE's, there's little to no replay value, AND it's going to launch at $60.

Another reason the flames are burning so strong is because it's a PS exclusive, and a highly hyped/anticipated one, so you have a slew of people arguing and defending the game. Which just means more replies and more discussion.

There's nothing uncanny about it. Other games like Titanfall, Evolve, hell even Ryse were subjected to the same hate. And it's not because of the Sony brand, either. Uncharted and LoU might have had a small amount of hate prior to launch but it's overwhelmingly positive. And Bloodborne can do no wrong right now. Maybe this game is just getting hate because it deserves it? A lot of people don't like the idea of a 5-6 hour game where 35-40% of it are cut scenes, and the only real replay value is replaying the game to hunt trinkets. And it's $60.

Funny how many of those same points didn't stop you shelling out $60 to buy Wolfenstein and describe it as amazing.   That game has lots of cutscenes and can be beaten in no time.

Bravo.

I always love it when hypocrisy gets pointed out.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I agree that both games should get the same treatment. Spending $60 on a game that you can sit back, watch and get the same experience from is dumb. I rented Ryse, beat it, played some games of co-op and then I was done with it. The blind love disregarding any of the flaws either game gets is an embarassment.

I bought Wolfenstein digital because I can afford to. People like me fund this industry and as long as I can afford to install will.If I play through the order 3 times that's value enough for me. Metro redux I bought digital too. Didn't regret it one bit.

Renting games doesn't mean you can't afford it. And neither does trading in games. Affordability was never even a factor in my post. Do whatever you want with your own money. I'll still have my opinion on how much a game is worth. When compared to other $60 games, some just don't hold up.

Ah thanks but I don't deserve that much praise.  A 2 minute Google search was all it took.

When divided by the number of hours you play the game obviously a single player only game won't hold up. Especially when it's not open world.  If nobody bought these games like I do these companies and devs would go out of business.  I'm happy to assist in the funding of this industry.  Kerotan the great patron is my new full title.  or saviour of the lesser mainstream genres.  Not sure which I prefer

This is absolute rubbish.

I was not a fan of W:TNO, but it definitely takes more than 10 hours to beat, even on the easiest difficulty. Its also pretty much 10 hours of non stop shooting, with a mix of stealth or exploration sections. In no way shape or form, are you not engaged in gameplay for the majority of the campaign.

Not even sure where to begin on how wrong you are.

1. Not all of those games on that list are games I bought. I Gamefly'd Wolfenstein. As well as Madden 25, since I already owned the PS3 version.  I can provide a snapshot of my GF rental history if you'd like. Why did I not buy Wolfenstein? Because I was not sure it would be worth $60. I ended up getting a ton of play time out of it and all 1000 achievement points. It was an awesome game.

2. Do not bother trying to compare the cut scenes and play time of Wolfenstein to that of The Order. Maybe you haven't watched any of The Order playthroughs on YouTube? I watched most of it while cleaning yesterday. It's like people trying to compare it to the QTE's in Ryse. They clearly do not know what they are talking about, and are in for a surprise when/if they ever play both games.

3. You seem to be under the impression I believe no one can buy The Order for $60 and not get their monies worth? I haven't said that. Bioshock is one of my all time favorite games, #2 on the recent "best 100 ever" list or whatever here, IIRC. And MGS was #1. Both of those games you can breeze through and finish in no time flat. However, both of those games has elements that allow for much longer play throughs, as well as replaying it entirely. From what I have seen, The Order has none of that. But that's not even the point. All I was addressing is what the thread is about, the "uncanny haterade". Gribble posted that list as if any game in the future that is guilty of any single one of those negative elements deserves the hate The Order has gotten. I am just saying it's guilty of all of them, at the same time, plus more he didn't even list. Throwing out a linear game I enjoyed like Wolfenstein won't change that. Mostly because I didn't buy Wolfenstein, but also because Wolfenstein does not also share all of those faults.

Hope that helps.

Or we can not support them forcing them to make better longer games if they wanna stay in business?

I'm sure they could get into the movie biz if they did stop making games.

Yeah, this is another flawed comparison people make when responding to The Order negativity. A direct comparison of play time. The Order can be easily beaten in under 6 hours without even speed running. The YouTube video confirms this. That does not mean any game with 6 hours or less play time is the same as The Order.
