Forums - Nintendo - Since Wii U failed, what should Nintendo have done to follow up the Wii's success?

Could Nintendo have realistically produced another Wii-like success?

Yes. Nintendo magic. Just not the Wii U. 131 28.85%

The Wii U's failure was damn near inevitable compared to the Wii but no one knew it would be this bad. I believe that if they had 4 or 5 more games at launch they could have kickstarted some momentum and gained some traction. They would have done a hell of a lot better. Even the biggest Nintendo fans have to admit Ninty got lucky with the lightning in a bottle known as the Wii.

When even nintendo fans are tired of defending the system, tired of justifying its lack of software... Yu know its a failure... Even i dont feel the need to defend it anymore... Not a game i plan on purchasing until may... 5 month drought.. AGAIN!

Different name, better marketing, more powerful hardware, have the gamepad be an optional peripheral rather than the main focus, better launch games (NSMBU was a nice start, but a big name like Metroid or Mario Kart would've helped a lot), better push for third party support, less droughts, etc.

i would rather them not be in direct competition with sony and ms. let those two duke it out over the "hardcore" dudebro market. what nintendo did with wii was smart------i don't mean targeting "casuals" (whatever THAT means), i mean carving out a niche. without a giant controller, you're talking $250 vs $400/500. Even if people bought it as a secondary console, they'd buy it. and considering that FIFA '15 was just released for the Wii (original), power's not the problem.

I have a feeling that you'll get banned just for the tittle of this thread. Similar things have happened to me just for stating the Wii U's mistakes, because that's trolling, apparently.

They needed more hard drive space, better 3rd party, killer games at launch that people want, a more discernable name since many thought it was just a Wii expansion, and MUCH better marketing. Even with all of that I don't think that it would have ended up living up to the Wii in terms of financial and commercial success but they wouldn't be in the situation that they're in right now.

Wii U is not the only reason of the current situation. Better Marketing and more games in the beginning would have helped.

The console should've been able to get third party support. Aside Halo and Kart/Smash, nothing boosts HW sales like Destiny/Watch Dogs/Call of Duty/GTA, even when they are bashed by reviewers. This is the main point to me.

Even a more expensive Wii U, like $500, would be in a better situation if it was able to play third party games.

Well, that, and a better name and marketing campaign would've made all the difference.

They should have put me in charge instead but that hack Iwata stole my job. Just like Jay Leno did to Conan.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

More powa.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

Uh. This "Wii U failed" thing. Again and again.

The Wii U DID NOT FAIL.

Nintendo can and will get about 30 MIO WII OWNERS TO BUY A WII U.

Wait and see.
